The Government boasts it's "saved" Grangemouth oil refinery and "500 jobs". But what about the 320,000 jobs lost since Labour came to power, asks Ben Pile. Subsidies can't prop up forever an economy ravaged by Net Zero.

CPI

category national | miscellaneous | other press author Wednesday September 05, 2007 03:07author by R Report this post to the editors

"Comrades. If we don't do it, who will? Will the narrow, dogmatic economism of the Socialist Party do it? Will the will-o'-the-wisp politics of the endless frenetic protesting and sloganeering of the SWP bring change? Will Sinn Fein deliver, or are they now treading the well-worn path of electoralism, reducing the working class to mere election cannon-fodder? Will a middle dominated organisation like the Labour Party deliver, wedded as it is to coalition?"

- Eugene McCartan, General Secretary of the Communist Party Of Ireland.

Excert taken from the opening speech of 23rd national congress of the CPI publication, availiable from Connolly Books for the princely sum of 3 euro 50 cent.

A strange thing to say considering the CPI was calling for left unity a mere two months ago?

or even better skirt the intricities of copyright by reading it into your webcam in small chunks and then leave all the chunks on youtube? After all - it is not every worker, man of the forge or woman of the bridle who can make it down to Connolly's bookshop & I daresay there wouldn't be enough copies of the report to satisfy demand now you've so succesfully promoted the work.

You can still call for Left Unity and criticise the programmes of other parties on the Left. Left Unity doesnt mean that you ignore differences. It means coming together on an agreed programme.

I'm not defending the CPI here and I'm not supporting their criticism of the SP. I'd like to see the entire speech.

This may not be opportunist of the CPI and like the poster above I would like to read the full oration to see if this extract has been quoted out of context but on the evidence here it seems that the CPI has at least been somewhat hypocritical.
I keep saying it, the worst enemy of the left is the left itself.

Point is,none of these parites are going to "do it"
Only people doing it themselves will bring about social change, not investing our trsut in a great red bureaucracy.
