Shortlist of pipeline routes

category international | environment | other press author Tuesday September 18, 2007 18:58author by IT. Story Report this post to the editors

A shortlist of three possible pipeline routes will be on display in Belmullet tomorrow.

RPS. Consultants for Shell E&P Ireland will display the three possible routes in belmullet tomorrow, they are inviting the public to come and view the routes tomorrow and give their opinion. http://www.corribsos.com/index.php?id=1538
In a piece by "Lorna Siggins" in the IT she states
"Consultants for Shell E&P Ireland intend to submit the entire Corrib gas pipeline route to State authorities for approval for the first time.
The move, which will only take place when a new onshore route for the pipeline is finalised, should circumvent criticisms of "project splitting" leveled at the Corrib gas partners, according to the consultants.".

It seems Shell and its Corrib gas partners will make three applications for the controversial pipeline - to An Bord Pleanála, if it is deemed to qualify under the new Strategic Infrastructure Act, Probably to determine which (if any) route will get the go ahead from ABP.

This devolopment, coupled with the impending decision by the EPA will make the next few weeks crucial to the future for the entire Corrib project.

there seems to be a completley new route in the short list http://www.shell.com/static/ie-en/downloads/exploration...7.pdf

route "C" is almost totally in water, I dont believe that route was shown before!

it's the green square and you can be sure it's a lot bigger on the ground than it is depicted here on their PR (maps on pages 5, 9, 11 and 13 of the document).

Anyone who's been down there will know that the boundary extends as far west as the road from Bellanaboy Bridge down to Pollatomish. It also extends some further distance to the north (I'm not so sure about its true eastern extent, perhaps a local can enlighten me).

Again, Shell appear to be downplaying the size of their operation. Perhaps somebody would like to take this up with Lorraine Herity, who's the Consultation Team Manager at the RPS Project Office in Belmullet. You can call her on 097 20720.

"The Rossport Five’s Vincent McGrath is also on the sidelines. He warns: “There’s a long way to go yet before Shell realises this won’t work. They still have to try to force a new pipeline though private lands and a hostile community.”"

If they go with route "3" there is no private land, (only at landfall and they have consent from landowner there, so how can they stop it now.
