PRESS RELEASE
BATTLE OF THE AXE @ The Ha‘Penny Bridge Inn-Dublin’s Longest Running Open Mic Night
celebrates 11 years of Quality Musical and Comedy tradition with a Marathon 24 hour non-stop Extravaganza at The Tivoli Theatre, Francis St, Dublin, in aid of PEOPLE IN NEED TELETHON‘07 from Midnight, Thursday, October 25th-Midnight, Friday, October 26th…
What do Irish Comedy Star and The Panel regular NEIL DELAMARE, current Irish music sensation PADDY CASEY and RTE’s Naked Camera Femme Fatale MAEVE HIGGINS all have in common? Well, besides being young, Irish and considerably talented, ALL began their performing careers at Dublin’s Tuesday Night Open-Mic event The Battle Of The Axe at The Ha’penny Bridge Inn by Dublin’s Famous Ha’penny Bridge. The club presents a weekly mix of music, comedy, poetry and even the occasional variety act… (Magicians or Ventriloquists, anyone!!??) Now celebrating 11 continuous years of quality shows at the venue, Master Of Ceremonies TONY FEARNS is taking his unique show ‘on-the-road’ to raise money for the RTE PEOPLE IN NEED TELETHON ‘07... The event, a 24-hour non-stop exotic cabaret presented at Dublin’s Tivoli Theatre, Francis St in the heart of The Liberties will feature regular performers from the shows both old and new. ALL proceeds will be donated to the charity appeal and ALL performers have agreed to perform for free in support of this worthy cause.
The necessity of tight scheduling of the day-and-night-long marathon and the need to co-ordinate an entertaining and varied show means that the final line-up remains a close secret at this time, HOWEVER the organisers have been inundated with offers of support from current and past performers, other comedy & singer/songwriter clubs and a combination of new talent and veteran troopers is assured, including a competition called Smack-down @ 4am in the morning with16 comedians going head to head… As if all that wasn’t enough, the organisers are in talks with none other than The Guinness Book Of Records in an effort to enter the record books with this unique event… Here’s your chance to see a top-line variety show of musical and comedy talent while doing your bit for PEOPLE IN NEED TELETHON ‘07...
