Harney you have to open your ears
The minister for Health and Children has said that the government is determined to proceed with the development of a new national children's Hospital on a site at the Mater Hospital in Dublin.
I am all for a new and bigger National Children's Hospital,
What we our campaign re looking for is that our lady's childrens hospital be kept at its currant location.
The loss of this Hospital to the local people and patients far and wide would be a great blow .
We are fighting to keep our hospital where it is ,
There are over 1,200 people employed in the hospital, 25% of these live in the Dublin 12 area,
The impact of the hospital closing along with Dulux, Lyons, Blindcraft, easons etc will and has had a effect in the area.
Harney Recently opend a new section of the hospital, only 3 weeks ago And tenders for a new developmeent is in Progress. But yet THERE CLOSING THE HOSPITAL DOWN ??????
Our Lady.s wants to develop a cardiac inpatient area by the redesign and refurbishment of St Bridgids and St Theresa's wards.
The Top childrens hospital plans to develope adequate parent facilities including a sitting room and kitchen for visiting adults who have to stay for long periods of time. Parents will also be able to avail of a new interview/counselling room when the proposed works are complete. In addition the hospital plans sto develop a two bed adolescent suite with its own bathroom facilities in St. Brigids ward. This work is starting this year over a phased basis.
BUT AGAIN THERE CLOSING THE HOSPITAL DOWN.
New staff working at the hospital are signing new contracts that they will move if necessary re the matersite.
Management have told staff that they don't believe the mater is conducive to good care for children and organised an indpendant report that states the reasons why it is not a good location , but at the same time instructs its workers that they cannot get involved in a campaign to save the hospital as they should not be seen to take sides.
This is outrageous and the unions involved should support their members to be able to voice their opinions on the hospital and the health service, elderly and our children.
Hospital workers where told they could not join the protests, organised by the save our lady's hospital campaign , against the closure wearing their uniforms ! ! ! ! ! .
The health service is not for sale for the rich to be given tax incentives but to provide the effective service we as human beings should demand as a right. Doctors like Crowne, nelligan and Bhreathnach are to be commended for their stance and we must support them against a government, which is bordering on the tactics of mccarthyism, witchunting and censorship.
Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin has said it does not believe that the Mater Hospital site can deliver a world class facility for the proposed new National Children's Hospital.
In June the Government backed a plan to move the three children's hospitals in Dublin to a new national centre on the mater site.
We say this is not good enought.
The mater site is way to small to build a new hospital of which they want.
As it is our lady's in crumlin deal with 1500 cases a week. if it is moved to the mater that number will be greatly reduced,
As for the funding for the new national hospital our govermnment have not as yet any idea as to where the funding is going to come from to build the new hospital.
In December of 06 , nursing staff at crumlin issued a statement saying that a world class children's Hospital had been promised but what was being offered was a facility with fewer beds, less space and poorer facilities than patients and their families currently enjoy in Dublin's three existing hospitals.
I am asking you all to please help us in saving this hospital.
Regards
Mrs Teresa Shallow.
