"It had nothing to do with the fact that they were Poles. It was, I'm afraid, just hooliganism at its worst".............. Bertie Ahern speaking in Warsaw
The Gardai have also been anxious to downplay any racial involvement , implying that the incident was just a minor altercation that got out of hand. It reminds me of how the RUC always used to instantly say that there appeared to be no sectarian motive whenever a catholic was murdered in the north.Media reports one or two days after the attacks about locals hearing members of the gang shouting at the two men to "get back to Poland " do not appear to have been followed up .
There seems to be a lot of wishful thinking going on . The mother of one of the two men has said that she hopes that they were not killed just because they were Polish . I hope that as well , but I have heard an increasing amount of anti-Polish/immigrant sentiment recently . These murders should be fully investigated before it is concluded that the men's nationality was not a factor in their murders.

Glad to hear that Joan is organising the vigil for Saturday. Will pass on the link to some of the youth
groups that work in the area; and friends.
