A horse is property.
You cannot murder property.
Mr Ed.
You are correct, nonhuman animals are classified as property, albeit sentient property meaning one cannot treat one's animal property as one may treat a DVD collection. However, it is true that nonhumans can be bought, sold, and swapped just like stamps. When an animal property owner is tired of her property, she can arrange to kill her - and even do it herself so long as no "unnecessary suffering" is involved.
The property status of animals is one of the things that animal rights theory seeks to challenge. You can look forward with baited breath for Professor Gary Francione's 2008 book, Animals As Persons, published by Columbia University Press.
rogy.
There was a time that human beings were seen as property.
Fair play to the protesters who took part in this demonstration. It's time we in Ireland had a national conversation about horse racing and greyhound racing, both of which are, which are similar to bull fighting in that they involve needless suffering of animals for human gratification.
excuse you, a specifics asside, people used to think they owned women, peole used to think they owned 'slaves'. we use the same theory to horses in fact every animal, so theyre non human animals but theyre stil living, breathing, sentient beings who ARE being murdered for their meat, because no one gives a human the right to think they saughter a creature to satisfy their palate. and this should be obvious to people who thin animals are property, wake up!! and realise the activists that were there yesterday were raising awareness about the cruelty of the racing industry band you have to criticise them about saying horses arent murdered because theyre property!! get a alife!!!!!!!!!
Horses are only 'property' because we made them that way. When it comes down to it, they are the same as us, just different species. They are living creatures which are clearly intelligent and have feelings.
They are treated as property because humans are arrogant enough to think its our right to control other living things, and its mostly for entertainment or money. We may think humans are at the top, but what other animal kills not only the very planet it needs to survive as well as other living creatures, but themselves as well. Hmmm??? Seems like a course of destruction to me.
Also, murder is murder.
Even when regarded as property, horses still are living things. Nowdays, we dont even kill them to survive. We just do. Every life is important, and should be respected. So in cases where the best course is to put them down, they need to be treated humanly.
Same animals are now and always have been a money spinner.
