Dutch MP to speak on Lisbon Treaty at pubic meetings across Ireland

This weekend the People before Profit Alliance will host a series of meetings around the country on ‘Why We Should Vote No to the Lisbon Treaty’.

Dutch MP, Harry van Bommel will speak in Dublin , Cork and Tralee on why Irish votes should follow the Dutch lead and Vote NO to the reconstituted EU Constitution, the Lisbon Treaty
Mr. van Bommel successfully led the no-campaign during the referendum on the European Constitution in 2005 and is currently leading a campaign in Holland to have a second referendum on the new European treaty.
The Irish people are the only EU citizens who will be allowed to vote on the Lisbon treaty. We are voting for the other 450 million people in people in Europe who are denied a vote. The Lisbon treaty is a re-run of the EU constitution rejected in 2005 by the people of France and Holland .
Mr van Bommel will be joined by leading Irish campaigners against the Lisbon Treaty including Richard Boyd Barrett from People Before Profit and Jimmy Kelly, Regional Secretary of UNITE.

Harry van Bommel is a member of the Parliament of the Netherlands, and spokesperson on European and foreign policyt of the Socialist Party, which is the country's third largest party and is currently leading the opposition in Parliament. Mr. Van Bommel studied political science in Amsterdam where he began his career in local politics in 1990. After a short career as a teacher he entered Parliament in 1998. Mr. Van Bommel successfully led the no-campaign during the referendum on the European Constitution in 2005 and drafted a law to have a second referendum on the new European treaty. His initiative law will be discussed in Parliament later this year.
