Anarchism in Ireland discussion forum

category national | anti-capitalism | news report author Monday June 23, 2008 12:04author by Joe - WSM (personal capacity) Report this post to the editors

A new moderated discussion forum for anarchists in Ireland has been launched as part of anarchistblackcat.org, a growing global anarchist project that a number of WSM members are involved in. The forum is open to anarchists and those interested in anarchism across the island and those elsewhere interested in events in Ireland.

Online anarchist and libertarian discussion in Ireland has taken a wide number of forms over the years with the most successful experiment probably being the old yahoogroups Irish anarchism list which at one point had over 400 subscribers and over 100 posts a month. But with the decline of the use of email lists and their replacement with forums there has been no one place where most anarchists in Ireland felt comfortable posting to. There have been a variety of both public and private forums and lists used by different sections of the movement, this new forum is not intended as a replacement to any of these but rather as a spot where all anarchists on the island can come together for respectful online discussion.

We hope you come over and join in the discussion at http://www.anarchistblackcat.org/viewforum.php?f=40 where you will already find discussion on Lisbon, the Raytheon 9, RAG, the north and the Irish elite.

Was a member of that republican forum you mention but while it had some potential its gone under in the last month and is currently a complete mess ,am now settleing in on the forum Cael links to here on his posts. members intrested in discussions on economy, infrastructure and the enviroment. a big step above the usual republican forum which consists of childish bragging, slagging and trolling.
Still only reading at the moment trying to catch up but look like theres a few wsm members on there too. thanks cael

And in the last months the IMC UK pages have been turning up Irish writers. http://indymedia.org.uk The Irish Times does a weekly online discussion thing which seems to be moderated by the establishment but you might get a comment published, certainly loads of oldtime indymedia regulars have posed the weekly "yes" or "no" sides.

& lastly re: last comment : The Pullman choo choo strike led up to Mayday. No anarchist should not know about it.

"Pullman strike" which was possibly the third most important industrial action in US history? Or am I the only one who makes that association? Well anyway - Mr Pullman was a capitalist of the lock stock and cooper barrel type. He owned everything. During a recession he put up the rents on his workers' homes (they lived in his town - at his factory - worshipped at his church) at least three times. As reports of the time attest - some workers got a paycheck for only 6 cents after the rent increases had been deducted from the wages which at the same time were being reduced.
In the end Mr Pullman tried to prove he owned US troops and agents too.

Ah sure I'm boring you.

What is the meaning of the choo choo train please?

Most of the anarchist groups and meetings I've been at over the years have neither been fully public nor operated without any sort of procedure. Quite why Daffy would expect online anarchist discussion to be any different I'm not sure.

I'm trying to find more info on an individual called John Neale.

Described as ''London Irishman'' and an ''English-Irishman with a cockney accent''[1], Neale was a ''young cockney member of the Irish Citizen Army''[2][3].

He acted as a lookout on top of the Metropole Hotel during the armed uprising against British rule in Dublin, Easter Week, 1916.

On the friday, ''As the building was being evacuated, his ammunition pouch was exploded by a stray bullet...Neale, whose lower torso was ripped to shreds, swayed and gasped to his neighbour, 'Can't you stand away and let a fellow lie down'. He was set down on a pile of mail stacks where he told Lieut. Traynore, 'I'm dying comrade' ''. He died the next day. [4]

I've found a detailed description of an individual who matches Neale in everyway - using the word 'comrade', acting as a lookout and being fatally shot at the evacuation of the Hotel Metropole. Yet, he is described as an ''American''[5]

Any hints, tips or advice on finding this man's story, his background and his family history?

Please email me at matchgrams@gmail.ie

Thanking you in advance.
