There are two reports about this meeting on the web ,one from J.M Throne for Socialist Democracy and the other by Anne MacShane for the CPGB’s Weekly Worker site .
The Trotskyist group, Socialist Democracy , reported on its website last Friday that some of its members attended the Dublin HOPI meeting . Fifteen people in total – including guests from the UK -were present for what had been billed as the “ launch “ of Hopi in Ireland . Socialist Democracy put forward the following motion :

The policy of HOPI is the unconditional defence of Iran from imperialist attack.

According to the SD report this motion was overwhelmingly voted down because it was felt by the majority of the conference that support for Iran implied support for the Iranian regime.

Anne MacShane from the Communist Party of Great Britain and founding member of HOPI in Ireland thought the launch conference was an extremely useful event. Writing in the CPGB’s Weekly Worker this week , she said that the contentious Socialist Democracy’s proposal was amended by the conference to replace “Iran” with “the Iranian people” . MacShane added that “ we must insist that our campaign supports the masses against the regime and this is an issue that must not be clouded “.
