Many workers for the food and clothing retailer Dunnes Stores are worried by rumours that the company is about to be sold to US giant Walmart. So far, both Walmart and Dunnes Stores have refused to comment on the reports, but significantly, neither has denied the story. A meeting of Dunnes Stores managers has been arranged for tomorrow (Thursday) and the union MANDATE has asked for clarification of what is planned. Some say the company will simply sell off some of its stores to Walmart, while others can't see why the company would sell sites to a competitor. |

Very interesting film/documentary here about the cost to the local community of allowing Walmart to open up.
