Cork launch of Love Music Hate Racism

category cork | rights, freedoms and repression | event notice author Sunday November 16, 2008 19:24author by Joe Moore - Love Music Hate Racismauthor email mapuche at eircom dot netauthor phone 087-2994796 Report this post to the editors

The Cork launch of Love Music Hate Racism will take place on Wednesday 26th November 2008 at 8.00pm in the Victoria Hotel, Patrick St, with the showing of the DVD "Who Shot the Sheriff." the story of Rock Against Racism.

Ideas of racism and racial hatred belong in the long distant past. Whenever and wherever they are dragged up they need to be smashed back down again.

Love Music Hate Racism uses the positive energy of the music scene to fight back against racism, and has been having great success in opposing the racist filth being peddled by the BNP in Britain.

"We are now organising anti-Nazi gigs, raves and club nights up and down the country. Wherever the Nazis try to divide us, we'll be there-black and white united-to fight back against their lies and hatred"

In Ireland we don't want to see similar organisations of racist ideas. Neither do we want to see scapegoating of asylum seekers, immigrants or migrant workers in this country.

The Cork launch of Love Music Hate Racism will see the showing of the DVD "Who Shot the Sheriff" This relates the story of Rock Against Racism, which was set up in Britain in the '70's to fight against the nazi National Front, which was on the rise at the time and attempting to hold mass marches through Afro- Caribbean and Asian areas.

Rock Against Racism together with the Anti Nazi League was successful in defeating the National Front. The film contains footage of the famous concert in Victoria Park, London in 1978, where the headline act was The Clash.

We need musicians, poets, artists, performers and anyone interested in helping us organise events against racism. So spread the word and make Wednesday 26th a resounding success by sending a message to racists that they are not wanted and will not be tolerated.

In recent times, around Cork City, flyers have been pasted stating "Keep Ireland White". I would urge people to keep tearing these down as soon as they are put up.

Come along to the film, discuss what is to be done, plan and participate in future "Love Music Hate Racism" events.
