Jump To Comment: 1 2The organisation who were running the Ward Union Hunt Ball were the Ward Union Pony Club. It had nothing whatsoever to do with the hunt. I know it's an easy mistake to make but the type of dance that was run is called a hunt ball. The ward union pony club does not participate in any way in hunting. The club was started to encourage safe riding in young people. Even go onto the Ward union pony club website and you will see that there is no mention of hunting animals or harming them in any shape or form. I am truely sorry that you got the wrong impression. Also the picture have up is not of a member of the ward union pony club. I am saying this as a member of the club I am expressing my argument but however I am not presenting the argument that represents the club that is up to the D.C. to do. I would love to discuss this topic further with whomsoever is in charge of this website.
The money that was raised that night was to go forward to helping teach young people how to take care of their horses/ponies correctly so as to give a better quality of life to them also it may have bought some fences for the club to use at the rallies and many other things.
This on the whole in my opinion has been a misunderstanding. The Ward Union Pony Club is not the same as the Ward Union Hunt. If one becomes a member of the Pony Club one is not then a member of the Hunt.
Please read this and think about it.
I'd be interested in clarifications here and have a couple of questions.
1. Do the Pony Club members not go on to join the hunt?
2. Are there truly no links? (ie: parents hunting while kids learn horsey skills at the club to then go on to join the hunt?)
3. Does the Pony club formally dissassociate itself from the Ward Union Hunt?
4. Does the Pony Club have an anti-hunting policy?
The first, admittedly, is out of the control of the pony club, and I ask this question simply to ascertain the facts with regard to the other questions.
The most pertinent questions (to my mind at least) are 3 and 4. If the Pony club is anti-hunting and formally disassociaciates itself from the Ward Union Hunt, then yes, this protest should not go ahead. Otherwise, it is fair game as far as I am concerned, and more power to the protestors.
Clarification will help make my mind up on this one. I would never support a protest against a genuinely animal-friendly club. If a Pony club representative can answer the above questions and categorically oppose stag and fox hunting, I will be happy to support your opposition to this protest. Perhaps a statement on the website would convince people that they are truly anti-hunt and have nothing to do with the annual tormenting of tame animals?
