Dublin Bus cut backs. Details on some of Routes affected.

category dublin | consumer issues | news report author Monday March 16, 2009 17:15author by T Report this post to the editors

Preliminary list of Bus Routes cutback or eliminated

Details are becoming available on the depth of the severe cutbacks in our public transport service from Dublin Bus.

Some of the buses have posted up a list of the routes affected. This is a callout for people to take a snap of the list (with their camera phone) for their area and then to later add to the list here, so that the full picture or the entire Dublin area can become clear.

So far, the cancellations affecting Donnybrook Garage are:

Cutbacks on the Monday to Friday Service
Bus Route Number of Departures Eliminated / Eliminated Service
14 & 48A 40 Departures
114 22 Departures. Terminus location changed to ???
18 5   Departures
17 4   Departures
45 Service to City Centre eliminated
15/20 min service Bray to Blackrock
161 14 Departures
46C Eliminated
111 Eliminated
7 37 Departures
145 3   Departures
44 44c 19 Departures
44b 6   Departures

The cutbacks for Saturday and Sunday are just as bad, but unfortunately these could not be copied down in time.

A departure refers to a journey from either terminus on a bus route. So the loss of 2 departures would be the entire run from one end to the other and back again.

At a time when the Greens in the government are trying to get 100,000 people out of their cars, these cutbacks are clearly ludicrous. What will happen is that initially the demand will still be there and with this huge loss of service, buses will be completely full and passengers will be left standing at the stops. This of course will force them to find alternative means of getting to work or whatever, and will cause more cars to appear on the roads and of course a fall in passenger numbers. The loss of revenue for the reduced passenger service due to this degraded service will then in turn force another round of cuts and will spiral downwards. No doubt when that happens, that will be the moment, that the government will try once again to privatise the service.

Please add further information on cutbacks to other routes in the comments section and this table can be updated later
