So much for Labour's promise to "smash the gangs".

The Truth About Britain?s Wildfires Thu Aug 21, 2025 15:00 | Paul Homewood It is simplistic to blame the recent spike in wildfires on climate change, writes Paul Homewood. A more likely cause is the rewilding of uplands, supposedly to cut carbon emissions, and poor management of forested land.

Lucky To Have Had "to Spend More Than €200m On Judges" Berlusconi & The Unseen Nipple

It's been quite some time since Berlusconi has done his baffoonery stage act at the official podium of his political office. We've seen Berlusconi on TV (his tv) at disaster sites, on foreign visits, at his football stadium, talking about his villa - but yesterday he yet again told journalists
"he is irreplacable"
"he is the most persecuted in history" - so many lawsuits. Thankfully he has the two thirds of a billion to pay damages against those who say he is corrupt. & his little slip of the tongue was precious. He confided that his wealth allowed him the fortune to defend himself and buy 200 million euros worth of judges. Oooooops. "l-a-w-y-e-r-s". Either someone got to his teleprompter or this is Caesar after the soothsayer shock.
Mr spoke (mis spoke) from the Pallazo Chigi. - interesting decoration.
"I am, and not only in my own opinion, the best prime minister who could be found today," he told a press conference. "I believe there is no one in history to whom I should feel inferior. Quite the opposite."
"In absolute terms, I am the most legally persecuted man of all times, in the whole history of mankind, worldwide, because I have been subjected to more than 2,500 court hearings and I have the good luck – having worked well in the past and having accumulated an important wealth – to have been able to spend more than €200m in consultants and judges ... I mean in consultants and lawyers."
Silvio Berlusconi - October 9 - 2009
Many will wonder where the unseen nipple comes into this. Easy. He was speaking as pictured in the same posh Roman building that all prime ministers have spoken from when doing their job. The painting in the background is a reproduction of one by Giambattista Tiepolo. In the original there is a nipple beared on the figurative female representation of liberty. In the reproduction this nipple was carefully painted and perked and until summer 2008 offered succour to every governmental executive weaned on the values of the Italian republic's constitutional liberal democracy.
Berlusconi had that nipple painted out last summer before i brought readers attention to his divorce after a near decade estrangement from his wife. Then we met 19 year old Noemi. Then we heard about the sex worker on his bed upstairs from the missing nipple of Giambattista Tiepolo. Patricia the woman in question even played us a tape of what he had to say about the bed and the painting of his estranged proto-divorcee much maligned and long suffering wife which sits above it.
not a nipple in sight. Oh it's all been such a great story, a drama of epic proportions.
But now he's going and those who took it for granted that the travesty of governance in its confusion and mixture of institutions of state that was created by and for Berlusconi might just be impossible to sustain without him. This brings smiles to our faces as we await the dramatic fall of this villain & a happy ending with multiple voice parts, orchestral finale, triumphant chorus heralding in a new age. As if the passing of Berlusconi at such a late stage could even mean the Italian state will not deteriorate further and quicker. It's quite a choice to have put to the mob and audience of Rome. Are they prepared to have Italy without him?
With or without a contigency plan in Italy or its friends and partners of EU, NATO, G8 or soccer leagues- Mr B is going "one way or the other & how much of Italy will go with him?
