A large contingent of Shell to Sea activists mostly from the Kildare branch along with people from Dublin Shell to Sea were out in force distributing the group’s new information leaflet on Saturday in Newbridge. The ‘Shell to Sea’ campaign which seeks to ensure the proposed Corrib gas terminal and pipeline are constructed offshore, whilst also highlighting the environmental, planning and health and safety neglect as well as the economic consequences of this government backed plan. The group spent the afternoon delivering over a thousand information leaflets explaining all the facts behind the struggle with a particular focus on the economic implications of this great oil & gas giveaway.

A spokesperson from Kildare Shell to Sea was delighted with the turn out and response from the public and that people were genuinely interested in the issue adding “it is very important that people are aware of what’s going on in Rossport and the that an estimated €420 billion worth of oil and gas has simply been given away to Shell. The nationalization of these resources needs to be at the heart of the government’s agenda or at the very least a massive tax on the profits which foreign oil companies make like Norway where it is 78%.”

The group says this would alleviate the pain and suffering experienced by most people in this country with no more unfair levies, taxes or cuts in welfare, benefits and public services. and it would provide the exchequer with valuable cash to invest in schools, hospitals and stimulate the economy. For further info go to www.corribsos.com or www.dublins2s.ie or contact the group by email at kildareshelltosea@gmail.com.
