Military Torture and State Terrorism in the Philippines

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | other press author Wednesday May 26, 2010 02:44author by Philippines Cultural Studies Center Report this post to the editors

CIA Torture Methods Inflicted on Filipino Health Care Workers

Despite the election of NoyNoy Aquino III to succeed the corrupt, brutal Arroyo, 43 healthcare workers continue to suffer military torture in the Philippines. Five detainees--Valentino Paulino, Cherrylyn Tawagon, Ellen Carandang, Jennylyn Pizarro, and John Mark Barrientos--remain confined to miitary dungeons, while 38 were transferred to Bicutan Camp Bagong Diwa, notorious for the massacre of Moro suspects. Carandang's children were taken from their home by the military, while the rest are subjected to daily torture, harassments of family and relatives, threats, and other horrors. We appeal to the international community with a conscience to demand the release of these innocent civilians.

U.S. CIA TORTURE METHODS INFLICTED ON 43 DOCTORS AND HEALTH-CARE WORKERS IN THE PHILIPPINES

by E. SAN JUAN, Jr.

The United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) occupies center-stage again in the Philippines, the laboratory in 1950-1960s for the Phoenix assassination program in Vietnam inspired by CIA agent Edward Lansdale who is credited for defeating the communist-led Huk uprising. Attention is being given to the CIA systematization of coercive techniques in handling prisoners, including diverse forms of torture, zealously implemented by the police/military officials of the corrupt, unpopular Gloria Arroyo regime.
