It has come to light that Gerry Adams hand-picked the members of a committee which have oversight of the spending of £8 million on Irish language projects. Gaelscéal, the Irish language weekly newspaper, has highlighted the remarkable powers that Sinn Féin have achieved in the new dispensation in the North. Gerry Adams, according to the report had Gearóid Ó hEára from Derry draw up a shortlist and he (Adams) made the final choice of committeeto administer the fund for capital projects involving the Irish language. |

Jump To Comment: 1Máirtín Ó Muilleoir was a SF councillor in Belfast for years.
Foras na Gaeilge, the state language quango, is packed with SF nominees. In this area SF have treated a state board the way FF have been doing for decades. Since they came on this board 2 Irish language newspapers have closed after funding was withdrawn, including the Belfast based Lá Nua.
This language fund was a pay-off for SF agreeing not to push for a Language Act in the north which would give legal equality to Irish speakers. The DUP constantly boast of having prevented rights for Irish speakers, and have succeeded in getting loads of money for the Ulster-Scots scam.
