Our lives are increasingly constrained by the social relations that capital coordinates. The educational discourses of neoliberalism; promoting literacy for job opportunities, economic advancement, and individual success, are of paramount importance to producing human capital rather than human beings. Neoliberal literacy includes training students and workers to accept 'a new work discipline' conditioning their will to maximize the accumulation of capital and wealth. As students increase their marketability, they are ' always already shaped by the labyrinthine circuits of capitalist desire.' ( McLaren & Farahmandpur, 2002) We are not just learning, teaching, and living in neoliberal capitalist societies, but are becoming 'a new life-form: human-capital' through the 'capitalization of humanity.' (Rikowski, 2002)
