It is believed the long-standing Drogs fan, aged about 50 shouted ‘n****r’ and other racist comments at Drogheda’s Senegal-born striker Ibrahima Iyane Thiam during the recent home game against Sligo Rovers.

Iyane Thiam, starting a game at United Park for the first time, was unaware of the tirade, but stewards moved in to evict the man after he was reported by other Drogheda supporters who had heard the vile remarks. read full story / add a comment

I believe that the deal between Dublin City council and JC Decaux, swapping the space on public footpaths for 126 billboards in exchange for a couple of hundred bikes has all the hallmarks of a corrupt deal. I simply cannot believe that, knowing the facts that are public, that any local authority in the country would agree to this deal, without someone in charge being either blackmailed or bribed to agree to it. read full story / add a comment

Over the past few years i have raised in indymedia the damage done to the working class movement by left sectarianism and advocated that attempts be made by left groups and left activists to work together much more. For this I have been attacked and slandered by the leadership of the old organization of which I was a part, the Socialist Party in Ireland. I am very glad to see that the Socialist party in Britain now appears to be taking steps in the direction of trying to work together with other groups on the left. I hope when I raise this again i will not be treated as some sort of heretic. Comradely, John Throne. read full story / add a comment

Noam Chomsky writes on the oil robbery taking place in Iraq. No-bid contracts written by the oil corporations with the aid of U.S. officials, triumphed over offers from 40 other companies, including those in China, India and Russia. Chomsky also deals with the occupation and aggression towards Iran. Full text at link.

The deal just taking shape between Iraq's Oil Ministry and four Western oil companies raises critical questions about the nature of the US invasion and occupation of Iraq — questions that should certainly be addressed by presidential candidates and seriously discussed in the United States, and of course in occupied Iraq, where it appears that the population has little if any role in determining the future of their country. read full story / add a comment

In the next few days the US Senate will consider what has been labelled an ‘Iran war resolution’ calling on the president to “initiate an international effort to immediately and dramatically increase the economic, political and diplomatic pressure on Iran to verifiably suspend its nuclear enrichment activities ...” The resolution calls, among other things, for the prohibition of the export to Iran of all refined petroleum products and “stringent inspection requirements on all persons, vehicles, ships, planes, trains, and cargo entering or departing Iran”. read full story / add a comment
