There are people who deny that climate change is happening, that it is caused by increasing greenhouse gases (GHG) from burning fossil fuels, or that it is potentially so serious as to be civilization even humanity threatening. Last Wednesday, July 7th, Elijah Smith was released from Lewes Prison. He had been held since the Israeli bombing of Gaza in January '09. Along with his co-defendants he had been acquitted unanimously of all charges by the jury. AFAR would like to condemn yet again the keeping of wild animals in captivity for entertainment purposes. The 10 year old Penguin stolen from the Zoo and dumped in the City centre is yet another example of the dangers posed to wild animals by Zoos. Zoos are a remnant of bygone days and merely a continuation of the outdated Victorian menageries of the past. They serve no purpose other than that of commercial gain. read full story / add a comment

The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) today welcomed the move by Irish Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern to block a proposed European Commission data-sharing plan with Israel. If adopted the proposal would have given the green light to EU member states to allow the transfer to and storage of sensitive personal data on European citizens to Israel. read full story / add a comment |
