The BBC's Director of Comedy wants to "save the sitcom". But the sitcom is only endangered because most of them stopped being funny. As To the Manor Born reminds us, British comedy has lost its class, says Finlay McLaren.

offsite link Thank Lockdowns for the Worst Budget in History Sat Nov 22, 2025 13:00 | Will Jones
We're a week away from the most painful Budget in history thanks largely to the eye-watering cost of lockdown. Yet Baroness Hallett says next time the Government must be ready to go harder and faster. This is insanity.

offsite link Taxpayers Are Charged for the BBC Whether They Like it or Not Sat Nov 22, 2025 11:00 | Charlotte Gill
It's bad enough that all UK TV users are forced to fund the BBC via a TV licence. But it's worse than that, says Charlotte Gill: millions of pounds of taxpayers' money are handed to the corporation via backdoor channels.

'the electrohippie collective' - Take Action from Wherever U are against War

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Wednesday March 19, 2003 17:55author by little ppl Report this post to the editors

Similar Irish Details to Follow in Comments Below

'the electrohippie collective' are putting together some online actions against the Iraq war that the public, globally, can join in with.

They have also prepared a 'free distribution' page which gives information for those who cannot get to meetings or big demonstrations. The idea is that anyone can take part in applying pressure to those promoting conflict from your own home. You can do this in your own time, and using your own choices and creative methods.

The page contains details of how to contact Bush, Blair, and the politicial parties in the US and UK who support the Iraq conflict. It also provides links to key media outliets in the US and UK so that people can apply personal pressure by lobbying the media to properly represent global opinion. Also, you don't need an Internet connection, as the sheet can be printed off
and copied, and provides post, telephone and fax details for many organisations.

The 'distribution page' is attached to this email as an HTML file -- you need to use a web browser to open and view/print it. If you go online while the sheet is open, you can then click the links to go to the sites listed, or to email particular people.

For more details about the electrohippies actions see: http://www.fraw.org.uk/ehippies/

The distribution page will be updated. for the latest version see: http://www.fraw.org.uk/ehippies/iraq/iraq_distro.html

============

"We are not for names, nor men, nor titles of Government, nor are we for this party nor against the other but we are for justice and mercy and
truth and peace and true freedom, that these may be exalted in our nation, and that goodness, righteousness, meekness, temperance, peace and unity with God, and with one another, that these things may abound."

(Edward Burroughs, 1659 - from 'Quaker Faith and Practice')
