The Year in Review, Our Hopes for 2005

The Cork Anti-War Campaign invites all anti-war activists in the Cork area and beyond to come to a public meeting at the Tig Filí, McCurtain St. at 8pm on Monday, 13th December to participate in a review of the year's activities of both the Cork Anti-War Campaign and the Irish anti-war movement generally. We are also interested to hear the ideas and opinions of people about what we as a local organisation and as a national movement can/could/should be doing in the coming year. Tim Hourigan and Ed Horgan will speak, and after the speakers the meeting will be open to the floor. This is an ideal opportunity for all those activists and supporters of the anti-war cause to re-engage with each other and to re-invigorate the CAWC, and we hope for a productive and enjoyable night. Everybody is welcome to come along and contribute ideas or give reflections on the past year's activities.

what has happend to anti war ireland is it going to have a agm the so call irish anti war movement is still the main grope and their just a rbb/swp front can AWI take the lead or will it just be all talk how many people can it get on the st on march next year

CAWC is still part of Anti-War Ireland (certainly NOT the IAWM/SWP), as are Fairview and the Limerick/Clare groups and some others, but the truth seems to be that some people took the AWI project more seriously than others and when they had to go offside for various reasons, AWI became less of a priority.

The short version is that there is too much localism in the anti-war movement. A new national body is still needed. AWI is that body, but needs to be given a few electrical jolts at this stage to wake it up. Is AWI going to be something that only resurrects itself for occasional national actions like demos in Shannon and Dublin? It should be more than that.

Who are the "some others" as the affiliates of AWI? Answer the question and don't just come back with a smart answer about IAWM.

"A new national body is still needed- AWI is that body" ??? Hilarious stuff this!!

I think its the last poster that needs "a few electrical jolts at this stage to wake...up".

"...but the truth seems to be that some people took the AWI project more seriously than others and when they had to go offside for various reasons...."

So if they took it so seriously, where is it?

Isn't it awful? Poor SWP/IAWM no longer exists in corporeal form (ie, it's now a figment of the imagination of the SWP's ever-active propaganda relations bureau), and in their bitterness they hope the rest of the anti-war movement has imploded.

Anti-War Ireland includes the anti-war groups in Limerick/Clare (the Mid-West Alliance Against Militarism and War), the Cork Anti-War Campaign, the Dublin Anti-War Group, Fairview Against the War, Clonakilty Against the War, Global Women's Strike, the Pitstop Ploughshares 5, and members in Galway, Kilkenny and a few other places.

And the SWP/IAWM consists of....em...the SWP?

The IAWM/SWP should just be ignored. I agree with both sides of the above 'debate', i.e., don't feed the trolls.

This type of negative stuff does the antiwar movement no good. It's Life of Brian material. Just ignore the jibes from SWP trolls.

Best of luck to the Cork Anti-War Campaign and their upcoming meeting. They continue, as ever, to do good work and deserve the support and respect of antiwar activists throughout the country. Well done!

The anti-war movement is in a pretty weak state and sniping at us by Iawm types is bizarre and unhelpful to say the least.

Come to the meeting. Open discussion etc. etc. All welcome!
