British and US plan Iraq withdrawal![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Leaked Ministry of Defence document tells of “prudent planning” A memo attributed to British Defence Minister John Reid states that the UK is to reduce it's troops from 8,500 to 3,000 by this time next year. The memo, printed in todays Daily Mail, also states that the US is to reduce it's occupation forces from 140,000 to 66,000 in the same period. Reid says in the memo that this is not as yet a definite plan but that it comprises “prudent planning”. While it is only one of the plans the UK have been working on over recent months it is however the only one they chose to leak, through one of it's mouthpieces, The Daily Mail, in the aftermath of the London Explosions. Standard behaviour to soften public opinion towards accepting a swift about-face manoever, such as the withdrawal of troops in the face of defeat and powerlessness as opposed to when they had installed a pro-British government, as they said they would. |
