Low intensity warfare &civil disobedience A little publicity in todays papers for the 'battle of the bins' It seems the 'Liberties' Dublins oldest enclave is fighting back vigorously in 'The battle of the bins'. A kind of guerilla warfare continues unabated here.A cat and mouse game continues in which ' black sack ' partisans lie in wait for the binmen in every alleyway-some of them stinking to the high heavens.! Dublin City Council yesterday admitted the problem ,and have been rounding them up after complaints from the law abiding citizens. They said 'while we are doing our best to go around and pick up these wastebags after the bin collections, we could cannot patrol every area. |

If we could renegotiate the corrupt deal that Ray Burke made with Shell then the royalities from the oil and gas coming out of the Irish sea bed and the corporation tax on Shell would easily pay for bin taxes and hospital waiting lists
Even Nigeria got more from their gas and oil than we are going to get - besides loosers what does that make us? A 4th world country, run by corrupt politicians who are controlled by multinationals company cheque books
I hope the bin tax gang and the hospital patients organisation will be out at the next Shell protest
at least a good bunch of em
And I hope the Shell to Sea "gang" will be out supporting the anti-bin tax campaign
There are also plastic bin collections in dublin 6 and 6w as The wheelie bins spoil the look of there houses.
They may have a point just look at the way they are becoming a visual eyesore in small front gardens, taking over from flowers, shrubs and lawns..
Bag collection is confined to areas of Dublin 8, Dublin 1, Dublin 3 and Dublin 7 - in effect, the older and most built-up parts of the city, where apartment dwelling makes wheelie bins an impossibility. The new Lord Mayor Catherine Byrne is from inchicore, Dublin 8 and has had numerous calls about the problem. A spokesperson for Dublin City Council said that litter wardens were busily sifting through the putrid rubbish bags to find evidence of who left them and attempt to prosecute them. Can't be to many applicants for that job. My stance on the bin taxes/new layer of double taxation is unequivocal. Wheras I cannot condone breaking the law, my best wishes to those who carry on the struggle to have this iniquitous burden lifted. It is clearly the forerunner of privatization of essential services and more profiteering by 'friends of Fianna Fail' .How easily we are subdued.
Yet, there is a way forward. If every community which is suffering under this rotten regime were to organize themselves-as the oppressed in Venezuela have successfully done under their new champion of the poor and oppressed, President Chavez, they must first organize into small cells or citizen groupings. This builds solidarity and confidence. These 'cells' form the nucleus of strenght of whole communities. Select a field, an open space, somewhere within the boundary of your locality...and then post watchguards at a certain hour ,and deposit your garbage sacks there,as a vast mound of resistance-a 'monument of garbage',as it were ,to declare to the councillors and lackeys of this government (and any who would aspire to take power after their demise,) that if it were to take a thousand years ,the people of Dublin would never ever surrender, to a corrupt and oppressive regime such as Fianna Fail. The bin taxes will fail .They will fail in Dublin and Dublin will be an exemplar for the torch of opposition that will inflame the whole country.
. Take your destiny into your own hands, by whatever means possible. Fianna Fail only seem powerful because of their wealth -and the common people are on their knees.
When men look back in history upon a corrupt and venial government ,and see how a small band of men can lead by example, and be imprisoned for their principles, let it be said of the good people of Dublin and their true leaders such as Joe Higgins and Claire Daly that, 'This was their finest hour'
There are thousands of us in Clondalkin that will not pay (for the second time!) for this service ; we dispose of our own house-hold waste as best we can ie take it to our jobs , leave it outside the local Council Offices and/or bring it into work with us where we can dispose of it in the shop/factory bins .
Anyway we can - except to pay twice ... !!
Sharon.
So your employer has to pay to dispose of your household waste. Nice one!
