INLA dismantles another criminal gang

category tyrone | miscellaneous | press release author Friday April 07, 2006 10:51author by IRSP - Irish Republican Socialist Party Report this post to the editors

''A criminal gang operating in the North West was last night dismantled by a unit from the North-West Brigade of the INLA and have been ordered to desist from all criminal activity or face a military response. "

The following statement was recieved by the Strabane IRSP on the 06-04-06 from the North-West Brigade of the INLA:

''A criminal gang operating in the North West was last night dismantled by a unit from the North-West Brigade of the INLA and have been ordered to desist from all criminal activity or face a military response. This particular gang which is headed up by a well known career criminal have in the past been involved in robberries, house break-ins, assaults and have more recently moved in to the drugs trade. It came to our attention that this gang was selling drugs to children after the mother of a 15 year old school girl informed the INLA that her daughter and friends of a similar age were taking Exctasy tablets. Last night a number of these gang members were arrested by one of our units and confiscated almost one thousand suspected Exctasy tablets and were instructed to pass them on to Teach na Failte representatives for destruction. Teach na Failte representatives have since handed these drugs on to the Drugs and Alcohol Awareness Project group in Strabane, in the presence of the local press, for destruction. We would like to take this opportunity to warn those involved in the drugs trade that they face a military response if they continue to target children in particular for drug use''.

Whern I saw the headline I thought the INLA had closed itself down but now I realise they just told a rival criminal gang to stop dealing on their patch.

The INLA should be praised for it's community work.

I thought the INLA was on ceasefire and had benefitted from the terms of the Good Friday Agreement with regards to prisoner releases.

A question for the ceasefire soldiers of the North West Brigade INLA - were you involved in the abduction of Mary Reid from her place of work in Derry city on 29th January2003?

There is absolutely nothing to suggest that your sister Mary was anything but very respected by her former comrades in the INLA and IRSP. There is also nothing to suggest that her death was nothing more than a tragic accident and you are obviously very hurt and saddened by her death. I am also aware that the IRSP have offered to meet you to listen to your concerns yet you haven't taken them up on that offer.

Perhaps there wasn't an internal fued in a while, and they got restless and needed to bump someone off so through to INLA fashion they killed one of their own.

The former comrades of Mary Reid in the IRSP were the only political group that did not question the lack of an investigation or demand an investigation into Mary's death. They were the people that invented the accidental theory and also suggested that she may have been suicidal. The possibility of Mary being murdered in a remote part of Donegal was not to be discussed. The incompetence of the Garda on the day of Mary's death may be explained by laziness on a wet and miserable winters day. However, I would be of the opi nion, almost 7 years later, that the Garda were protecting their informers within the INLA. The IRSP had opportunities to discuss the details of Mary's death with her family, they choose to defend her former comrades. If IRSP concerns had been genuine, they would have questioned the suspicious circumstances of Mary's death in 2003 and protested for an investigation. They did the complete opposite.

Nothing more than trying to eliminate the competition.
And they are that stupid they think people will actually fall for their spin about fighting crime.
If they want to end crime, they should disband themselves.

The INLA were asked a question by the family of Mary Reid years ago and have received no answer. The IRSP were asked the same question 2 days ago and still no answer. I believe that your silence speaks volumes. Find the people that murdered this community activist (my sister Mary ) and find out why they believed that she should die. The war is long over,it is time to move on, it is time for the truth.

I'm sorry for your loss Joe.

Mary's death was tragic and I can only imagine the anguish you and your family must feel at never having the truth told, not to mention justice done in her name. To the INLA, Mary is just another one of those inconvenient truths that sends them scuttling back under their stones every time it is mentioned.

Reading the pathetic drivel praising these thugs must really stick in your throat. I know it sticks in mine. Trying to glorify the actions of a bunch of drug dealing, thieving, brutalising, murdering scum and pass it off as patriotism or heroism is as pathetic as it is laughable.

Joe I hope someday you and your family get what you deserve and in it will bring you peace and help you move on.

Thank you Doire Boy for your message, very much appreciated. The people of Derry city were brilliant and supportive to us in the day's after Mary was killed. They attended her wake and funeral in their hundreds. Mary loved Derry and the Derry people, they knew that she worked on their behalf and contributed greatly to her community. The Reid family harbour no bad feelings or proportion blame to the people of that beautiful city for Mary's death. Fear of INLA thugs has prevented people from coming forward with information and we understand this fear. We do not wish any person putting their life in danger. I believe that the truth will come out and Mary's killers will be named. To correct the IRSP message on this site, Mary was a community activist and left the IRSP in 1982. To my knowledge she was never a member of the INLA and I resent that implication from the IRSP.

Mary was described by friends and comrades as inspirational . " She put no value on her time " was how many described the help that she had given without reward . I knew of her generosity . She died on a cold winter day on an isolated beach . WHY ? Lies were told . WHY ? The memory of Mary and her kindness demands justice . Let the irsp carry out their own internal enquiry and find the truth . Then let us all know . Mary was a committed and dedicated republican socialist but with a big compassionate heart . What a terrible loss for her family and her friends .

The IRSP have had years to hold an enquiry. They didn;t. As someone above said it is an inconvenient truth for them and instead of doing the right thing they avoid the issue. Its obvious they know full well who is responsible and want to protect their own. Not only did they allow poor Mary to suffer but they still let her poor family suffer. Shame on them.
