If the BBC's Standards Committee, which is reviewing the corporation's coverage of climate change, wants a good example of bias, it should take a look at its report of recent floods in Pakistan, says Paul Homewood.

Slow Motion Diplomacy: Rice and Matza Balls

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Saturday July 22, 2006 11:25author by peptide Report this post to the editors

Condoleezza Rice (finally) announced that she would visit the war torn Middle East in the near future – let’s not rush to the assistance of innocent civilians and perhaps even prevent a humanitarian disaster! Rice also dismissed any hope of brokering an immediate cease-fire. She added that negotiating a cease-fire would be counter-productive at present! The international community has noted America’s lethargy and unwillingness to act in the present circumstances. The world is aware however that Israel would not have pursued its present hostile course without consent from Washington; Rice’s inaction and firm dismissal of any hope of a brokered cease-fire spells very clearly the relationship between Washington and Tel Aviv.

The US government is criticized by the broad mass of people throughout the world as well as intellectuals, artists, journalists and social commentators - so our political elites make the proper noises of how much they are appalled by US abuses but do nothing tangible because they actually support US policy.

This is what Victor Davis Hanson, a notorious neo-con policy wonk wrote:

What the man wrote

"For example, have we ever witnessed a conflict in which one of the belligerents — Iran — that shipped thousands of rockets into Lebanon, and promises that it will soon destroy Israel, vehemently denies that its own missile technicians are on the ground in the Bekka Valley. Wouldn’t it wish to brag of such solidarity?"

Which part of that does the writer above disagree weith.

Iran is a state which is consumed by Jew hatred and by anti-Semitism.

Now Hezbollah and Hamas are proxies of Iran.

Not so?

Oil Prices are now at a record high, which of course, means record profits for her family and friends in the Oil Industry.
Why would she rush? The bilions of extra oil profits are more than enough consolation for the loss of a few hundred Arabs in the middle east.

There are other considerations too, The U.S. have always bent over backwards to facilitate Israel (for reasons that are regretably unclear).

America can not risk giving Israel orders that they will refuse to follow because that would be a humiliation for the Americans and America can not allow any animosity between the United States and Israel.
Israel are a kind of Frankensteins monster, they have been created by America, but now even if America wanted to reign them in, it would be impossible given their massive nuclear arsenal and military capability and their militaristic attitude and willingness to defend themselves with maximum force from any threat to their zionist strategy, real or imagined.

Of course, the current administration have no qualms about supporting Israel in a war against lebanon/Syria/iran and are willing to sacrifice an unlimited number of innocent lives in the process.
And the price of Oil will continue to rise as will the profits of the big oil companies.
