The Hillsborough Law is well-intentioned, but its effect will be to transfer yet more power from Parliament to unelected judges ? the opposite of what is needed to restore public trust and democratic accountability.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood's asylum 'crackdown' is not nearly enough to stop the flow, says Juliet Samuel in the Times. It still leaves Britain looking like a utopia for far too many.

Former C.I.A. operatives to address sligo meeting

category sligo | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Tuesday October 24, 2006 10:39author by J. Dunne Report this post to the editors

Two former U.S. Central Intelligence Agency operatives, Kathleen Christison and Bill Christison will address a public meeting in the City Hotel, Quay Street, Sligo, on this Friday evening (27th October) at 8.30.p.m.

The Public Meeting is being held under the auspices of the Connolly Forum and the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, and Sligo’s former Mayor, Councillor Declan Bree, will preside at the event.

Kathleen Christison is a former CIA analyst and has worked on Middle East issues for 30 years. She is the author of a number of acclaimed books including "Perceptions of Palestine" and "The Wound of Dispossession".

Bill Christison was a senior official of the CIA. He served as a National Intelligence Officer for Southeast Asia, and Africa. Subsequently, he served as Director of the CIA's Office of Regional and Political Analysis, an office overseeing 200 experts on all nations, regions, and global problems of the world.

In recent years, Bill and Kathleen Christison have collaborated in seeking to expose what they claim is the ongoing destruction of Palestine by the Israeli regime, and they are particularly highlighting U.S. complicity in the process which they believe is one of the root causes of global terrorism. They have also been scathing critics of the “war on terror” and particularly the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

The Christison’s arrived in Ireland earlier this week having spent the last two weeks visiting Palestine, Lebanon and Israel. They will also address meetings in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Derry, Limerick and Galway.

Stop Belittling the Theories About September 11
by Bill Christison

I have devoted serious time to actually studying them in recent months, and have also carefully watched several videos that are available on the subject. ?

ONE: An airliner almost certainly did not hit The Pentagon

TWO: The North and South Towers of the World Trade Center almost certainly did not collapse and fall to earth because hijacked aircraft hit them. A plane did not hit Building 7 of the Center, which also collapsed

Great turn out in Sligo! Very mixed bag of people. old, young, younger. Both Men and Women. There was one major dick and a couple of drunk loolahs.

The points made were good but no real new ground was covered. The Christisons come across as very decent and committed people. The main theme that eventually came through to me was of - Optimism as a form of Activism. The Christisons warned of false optimism being a folly that could lead to apathy. But the fact that so many had turned up on a friday on a bank holiday weekend was undeniably feeding an undercurrent of real optimism. But the truth is in such bleak times and with the eleventh hour upon us in what was basically a lowkey talking shop , if you dont have optimism you may as well get the beer in and join the loolahs.

Good Work. Well done to all involved.

Over and Out.
