"You are free to Travel here, to live here, but you cannot Earn Money for Seven Years"

category national | worker & community struggles and protests | opinion/analysis author Wednesday October 25, 2006 12:02author by C Murray Report this post to the editors

Cabinet Crackdown on Migrant Workers. and Reid does the Same.

The Cabinet decided to disallow Romanian and Bulgarian workers to work in this economy
for seven years after the accession of these two states to the EU on January first 2007.
At the same time John Reid in Britain has severely restricted the influx of workers from those
states to: A small grpoup of skilled people, 20,000 agricultural workers and the self-employed.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/cartoons/0,,337484,00.html

The Irish Cabinet of the Failtes has gone a step forward than Reid and will no doubt
be advertising Ireland of the Welcomes through Bord Failte when the release states
That you can live in Ireland, you may eat in Ireland, you may visit freely- but you cannot
get a job without a work permit and you are not allowed to access any social welfare
benefits.

Thus - you may live here without the fianancial capacity to raise your children , or
to access medical care/mortgage/schooling. "We want your tourist money, but ye can
fuck off if you think you can have a job"

This marvellous diplomacy and discrimination at internatiuonal level amongst two
of the richest economies in Europe is telling. Reid is currently embroiled in a
diplomatic row and the nation of Begrudgers that we are ,are rationalising the
issue of why the most corrupt administration since the foundation of the State
is doing this- It's the economy , of course.

After seven years from accession, the people of Romania and Bulgaria will be
allowed to work here. They may be allowed to get pregnant here and access
materntiy services and over-priced creche fees. Or even buy a house and
contribute to the economy.

The limits are these:

1.No working in Ireland without a work permit.
2.Firms wanting to hire them will first have to prove they cannot get staff elsewhere.
3. No Jobs
4.No social Welfare.
4.No house-buying.

The Reid Debacle: http://politics.guardian.co.uk/homeaffairs/story/0,,193....html

It does not say what happens if you are already trying to live in this expensive, corrupt
economy. If you have children here with special needs that are blossoming due to
access to health services etc.

Tony Kileen, Minister for Labour is ringing his hands at the plight of Irish illegals in the
United States. He wants to establish a bi-laterla agreement with the US administration to
aid Irish illegals.

That is global diplomacy on a forceful scale, a mass publicity campaign to aid
the Irish Illegals and their problems with regard to rights and a publicity junket
to rationalise the discrimination of two accession States.

The story is on http://www.ireland.com

It is not alone the creation of a two-tier economy but the creation of a sub-class
of highly skilled professional people into a system wherin they become illegal
by virtue of their nationality. Irish people are suffering the same discrimination
in the states with regard to access to services as these people.

The Russian government have banned all migrants and immigrants from working in:

1.Covered Markets.
2.Dispensation of medicines
3.Street markets.

The jobs are ear-marked for nationals, and are the result of political pressure
from local interests for employment for Russian people as opposed to the migrant/emigrant
community.

There goes a bit of diversity and family liveliehood- not to mention consumer choice
in types of products bought.

Imagine now- that happened on Moore Strret- oh yeah its in the pipe-line.
The Halal and Asian shops will be rationalised under a shopping retail management
plan and the local fruit/veg and meat traders. It's too do with Landlords and rental income
in high property areas, not cultural diversity- the mask for rationalisation is racist but it
has a financial bedrock.

More shite.

I wonder do the family and relatives of the asylum seekers in Ireland worry about:-

*Ability to travel for medical care.
*Safety in foster homes for the under-age.
*Ability of those in Ireland without papers to earn a living wage.
*Access to medical care.
*access to schooling.
*advocacy.Translation services. rights info
*social welfare entitlement.
*Trauma counselling.
*suicide counselling.
*languages services.

The Irish government seem well able to use the mainstream media to fight on these
issues for the Irish abroad- well, in the States but not to provide through our
department of justice basic rights to people from other countries. indeed the
Dept of Justice seems more interested in deportation- notice how quiet the
deportations are in the run-up to the election?

http://home.eircom.net/content/irelandcom/breaking/1020...omnet

The Irish embassies do not provide basic services to Irish people living in
BCN or Malaysia- the dept of foreign affairs was singularly shite at removing
Irish from Kuala Lumpar during the Tsunami- even when a death occured in
my family.

The State insists on rights but is unwilling to extend them to the guests
and visitors of this country, no-one has commented on the similarities
between the Reid legislation and the Irish legislation on Immigration.
They are almost identical.
