Public archives of Microsoft dirty tricks hidden by Archive.org and others

category international | sci-tech | other press author Thursday February 22, 2007 17:11author by R. Isible Report this post to the editors

The Register: Volunteers take up the slack and republish Comes vs. Microsoft

Microsoft is often described as "evil" and accused of dirty tactics. Many people assume that these descriptions are inaccurate and that it's "just business" and competition. Perhaps it is, but when you actually read the internal documents that occasionally come to light you realise that they're hell bent on doing whatever they can to squash rivals. One such collection of material came out of the Comes vs. Microsoft case recently. Now, however, that material is disappearing and public internet archives e.g. WaybackMachine/Archive.org have also "cleansed" their records. The moral? If there's something really important then don't rely on private businesses to keep it around for you. Make your own copies, or work with others do do so.

The story is briefly reported by The Register at the link below:

Maybe I was millennial everyone I knew was. But in the last days people have pointed out really good downloads of open source stuff on the net to help seeing video and so on in the comments. & I found something I'm sure the experts (himself above) know about & maybe even can point to better "add-ons"- but I really like this one.
It's called "resurrect" it works on Mozilla Firefox which is a dinky & lean alternative to microsoft internet explorer- if you find a dead page - it will go off and consult the caches of CDN, Google, Yahoo!, te Internet archive and mount doom bar a dur it'self - Microsoft cache.
That said the best way to stop computer internet information from disappearing has to be copying it all - all the time - burn it on disks - print those disks - engrave golden disks with them - bury those disks somewhere safe. If anyone contradicts you about the evil history of microsoft - tell them you know coz you've a bunker. This mightn't suit some people (like those I knew back in my millennial days & since have never touched even an indymedia site for the f-e-a-r) so in that case - I'd go for verse recitation. In less than 7 years a bright kid at a ashram with nothing much else to do can recite gigabytes. Set up a little group - at first it will be like sessions of "simon says" after a bit of practise - you'll know
- you are the angel of the lord - trumpet in hand - book of sin open - ready to recite. ( I hope you make angel of the lord riz)

the link to "resurrect pages" https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2570/
or if you just want to get other add-ons and plug ins or change the theme of your desktop go here
https://addons.mozilla.org/ It helps if you're using mozilla firefox.

But maybe you don't need that stuff. Maybe you're a linux head - in which case you're asimulated already and can just watch machine code run down the screen and instead of spotting "fnords" see the penguins.

Certain people have been opposed to the good healthy act of
censorship in the media.
Press outlets are only protecting people from violence and sex.
It's their job to provide editorial control- otherwise newswires would be full of this shite.
