Appeal For Help Against U.S. Military Base in Vicenza

category international | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Sunday March 11, 2007 19:46author by Italiano Report this post to the editors

.

Dear friends in Ireland,

We have started boycotting the Banca Popolare di Vicenza (President Mr. Zonin) which would be the MAJOR investor in the American Military base they want to build in Vicenza. After some research in the net we found that the Banca Popolare di Vicenza has an Irish correspondent:

BPV Fiance International PLC. (Banca Pop. di Vicenza)
4 Georges Dock
Kredietbank House
IFSC
Dublin 1
Mr. Giuseppe Zalum (General Manager)
phone: 00353 (0) 1 6720630
e-mail: gzalum@bpvfinance.ie

Please help us with the boycott! Kindly refer to the General Manager requesting information concerning the position of Mr. Zonin towards the Dal Molin american military base in Vicenza.
In the name of peace, in the name of solidarity, in the name of brotherhood,
thank you.

Assemblea Permanente Contro il Dal Molin

Dear Ladies,
Dear Gentlemen,
Please find our appeal below and help us in our intents to protect our lands from this. Please help us to give international visibility to what is happening to as well as in this area of Italy.
Thanking you in advance for your most kind attention,

Assemblea Permanente Contro la Base Dal Molin
www.altravicenza.it for updates and detailed information. It is of extreme importance to visit the website.

Please note that the demonstration of February 17th brought more than 200.000 people to Vicenza. If you think that Vicenza counts approximately 100.000 citizens, then imagine how Vicenza changed in occasion of the demonstration. As previously mentioned, the international visibility is FUNDAMENTAL for our cause.

Listed below you will find data regarding my recent research on peace treaties, international charters and the human rights declaration. I just wish to put into evidence that the Vicenza Dal Molin army base would be contrary and contradictory to ALL previously internationally undersigned documents regarding peace and the human dignity.

Please note that the Assemblea Permanente Contro il NO al Dal Molin has started a national boycott campaign against the Banca Popolare di Vicenza which would be the major investor in the project concerning the construction and realization of the American Military Base. Many, many people who had bank accounts in the above mentioned bank have closed their accounts in sign of protest. The Assemblea Permanente is also boycotting the wine company Zonin (Mr. Gianni Zonin, president of the company is ALSO president of the Banca Popolare di Vicenza) as well as the Vicenza newspaper "Il Giornale di Vicenza" which is totally unbiased and is ONLY giving information concerning the favourable opinions and attitudes regarding the largest american military base in Europe.

Please note that the base, if it should be constructed, would be stocking from 90 to 130 nuclear weapons which means that in case of accidents our neighbouring countries such as Austria, Switzerland, France and Croatia COULD be indirectly involved.
What Vicenza needs now is international attention as well as the participation of foreign governments to say NO to this devastating project. We have approximately 100.000 citizens against the base but our voices are nopt loud enough for our government to hear. Mr. Prodi resigned some weeks ago partially due to missing agreements between the left wing government concerning the construcion of Dal Molin. President Napolitano did not accept Mr. Prodi's resignation and we have a government which cannot take a decision concerning the protection of the life of the Vicenza people.

The Assemblea Permanente is to be considered a movement AGAINST the construction of the Dal Molin american military base. The movement is made up oc Vicenza citizen's the majority of which housewives and women; those people who have the family economy in their hands and those people who from being mothers, wives and housewives have changed their lives into female "warriors" absolutely not ready to give in to injustice.
