Won’t Pay Campaign gets it wrong again – Mitchel McLaughlin MLA

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | other press author Wednesday April 04, 2007 13:45author by Anti Water Charges - Sinn Féin Report this post to the editors

In response to We Won't Pay Campaign

Dismissing claims by the Won't Pay Campaign Secretary, Gary Mulcahy that Sinn Féin has announced the introduction of water charges through the Assembly, Mitchel McLaughlin MLA said:

"Firstly politicians have no control over how television producers edit pre-recorded interviews but I have to say that even in the interview referred to by Mr Mulcahy at no time did I say that the Assembly would introduce water charges.

Sinn Féin's position is absolutely clear. We are opposed to people having to pay twice for any service. We have pointed out to the British government that we are already paying for water and sewage through the Regional rate. Sinn Féin will also lead the way in opposing any attempts to privatise our water service.

"Sinn Féin is adamant that the British government is responsible for the dire state of the water and sewage infrastructure because of their failure to invest money collected for this purpose through rates and they should provide the necessary finance to bring the system up to modern European standards."

Once again, we see the sinister motivations of the miicro-left groups. Instead of genuinely working towards an end of the double taxation/ privatisation agenda, they show that it's much more important for them to attack Sinn Fein.

There are many genuine campaigners and activists in the anti-water charges movement, but there are also people from secretive cult-like groups. People who get their orders from London, and whose only interest is in attacking Republicans and taking power whenever they can.

"(PSF Councillor) Mark Daly - He voted against the charge but like Labour councillors he pays his bin tax and called on others to do likewise. In a letter to the local paper in Tallaght he even said the bin tax was just like 'any other bill', this was when 7 people from South Dublin were in prison......."

Would that be the SP then?

I don’t think they were behind it. Sounds more like the MO of the SWP.

I must admit that I was a little alarmed when I heard it first as where many others which I suppose is representative of a general unease in terms of Sinn Feins resolve on this issue. But I am relieved that Mitchell McLaughlin has moved quickly to clarify his and Sinn Feins position.

Under the circumstances it was an easy mistake to make if one listens to the interview as aired. Unless the SWP has undue influence in the editing suite responsible it is hard to lay the blame at their feet. The minor hysterics post interview can however.

So what are you saying LM. Is Gary Mulcahy a member of a british govermnent sponsered cult-like organisation? Uh-huh.

And there are people within the anti-water charge groups who have been planted there by the government in order to attack Republicans?
Uh-huh. It really is a great strategy. If Sinn Fein do a u-turn on water charges we will need infiltrators to stir up anti-Republican sentiment. After all, if they do agree water charges then its not as if the people who voted for them will be pissed off or anything, not unless prompted to do so by state backed lackies.

Tell me. What other things and organisations do you think have been infiltrated by the Brits in order to slander the good name of Republicanism or keep tabs?

I know! The post office. That bitch behind the counter who refused to post your parcel unless you paid an extra 30p is really an British agent sent to harass you and make your life difficult. That taxi driver this morning. With all his subtle questions about the weather and trying to draw information out of you by getting you to spill your guts about Derry city's last game. Obviously there were secret microphones hidden in the head-rest. The BT repair man working on the box up the street. He's really tapping the phones. The girl at the checkout in Tescos. Shes watching. Watching. Ready to memorise anything you say to report back to her masters in Whitehall. Oh my god! That traffic warden just slapped a ticket on your car! Its obviously a plot to harass a Republican and extort money from him to feed the British war machine! They're everywhere! Everywhere! Agraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Do you see dead people all the time by any chance?
Oh excuse me LM. I've just seen someone I need to talk to Agent Mulder....can I have a word....

Simple question - before Gary 'devide and conquer' Mulcahy decided to hang his washing out to dry - did he first consider seeking clarity from SF or DUP???

author by Wesleypublication date Wed Apr 04, 2007 15:06author address author phone Report this post to the editors

I'm glad this has been clarified. Nowmaybe a bit of unification among all anti water charges groups instead of bickering and squabbling among each other. Did anyone contact SF or the DUP to find out had their positions changed or were sopme people hoping that it had changed for short term political posturing?

Seek clarity? Why should he seek clarity when he can try and indulge in some petty sectarian point-scoring? This is not about water charges, it's about the SP trying to put the boot into the Shinners. If the SP were genuine about trying to work with anti-water charges people they wouldn't fly off the handle like this.

If Sinn Fein stooges want to come on here and try to pretend that their beloved Mitchell didn't make this statement then go ahead. But he did say it............and you better brace yourselves for more Sinn Fein sell-outs.......

The Shinners are up to there neck in it. They are no more a leftist political party that paisley is an alliance voter.

Pragmatism is resolving an armed conflict is very different from the pragmatism involved with furthering a neoliberal ecomonic model.

Watch out for many more PFI initives,

If Sinn Fein are in favour of a united anti-water charges movement, then why do they not support a campaign of mass non-payment instead of attacking it?
