Republican Sinn Fein to campaign against EU Constitution

Leinster RSF to actively campaign for rejection of EU Constitution

A meeting of Comhairle Cuige Laighean (Leinster Executive) of Republican Sinn Féin held today (January 26) decided to actively campaign within Leinster – as part of a 26-County wide campaign – for the rejection of the EU Constitution. Republican Sinn Féin members will be mounting a poster and leaflet campaign coupled with other events throughout Leinster during the referendum campaign.

“Our campaign will be based on promoting Sovereignty, Democracy and Neutrality and opposing the creation of an undemocratic miltarised EU superstate,” said RSF’s Leinster PRO Ger Foran of Co Kilkenny.

What did RSF members hope to achieve when they joined Fianna Fail councillors in a counter-demonstration against the anti-war event at the Mellows statue in Galway on Saturday?

Power is about abuse and maintaining structures, not real engagement with real issues.

btw- Libertas is receiving legal advice from Mc Dowell, another refusnik, whoes partner in Goverment
is supporting Lisbon.
Engage with the issues and stop hanging argument on failed systems of corrupt practice
or lose the trust of the people you claim to represent.

Because you were insulting a dead man and the entire history of which that man was part and parcel of. RSF were the first to protest the Iraq war, in fact two of the members now both dead, used to stand alone down at Shannon during the first iraq war. The real question that should be asked id what was done to the statue a wise thing to do? I really would have hoped that someone would've thought twice and used sense instead of trying to desparatekly to be an " iconoclast" ffs. The same know it all youths who destroyed the Connolly statue.

I will also be voting NO to the upcoming treaty. But I think RSF, SF and other nationalist opponents are missing the mark. RSF think in nations. They believe there is something natural about nation-states. I don't agree. I stand for class politics. I oppose EU militarism because it is militarism that will be used in the interests of big business wars and disputes. I oppose common foreign policy for EU as it will be a pro-big business policy. I oppose the neo-liberal attacks on workers pay and workign conditions contained in the Treaty. Not a word of that from RSF. And definitly SF won't say a thing about it! RSF would support a protectionist 32 county Irish capitalist state.

RSF, there was never a golden age in Irish history. The living conditions have always been tough for working people and poor in Ireland. The living standards of Irish people will not improve just be rubbing out the border. The only way to advance Ireland is by fighting for socialism at home and alongside comrades in England, Scotland, Wales, Europe, and the world! RSF lack a necessary internationalist class analysis needed for a real successful opposition to the Lisbon Treaty.

"RSF would support a protectionist 32 county Irish capitalist state."

You might actually have a look at their policies before making such pronouncements. RSF seems to be a group that people, ignorant of the organisation and their politics, feel quite comfortable to pontificate on. "what RSF would do". Like you would know. Their words, policies and politics say otherwise.

RSF do not stand for internationalism. You cannot have socialism in one country. RSF would be Stalinist at best.
