Well the weather was shite butthe news headline sounded good over the radio.
Mightbe worthe further perusal...

Mairtin, Colm, Con, Stephen and daughter (slept soundly in her buggy)
and I braved the bad weather. Weather conditions cuts down on interactions
with passers by...but folks (even those with dreads, punk and che t-shirts)
looked particularly sedated and disengaged today.

One interesting interaction with an older Australian back to trace his family roots.
He had been drafted and shipped off to Vietnam. He still seemed traumatised
by the experience during the friendly (on our part) and cautious (on his part) conversation
he kept lowering his head and repeating, "We didn't have a choice!"
How long will the legacy of this war, the Irish government contributes to at Shannon,
will continue to ripple through such livesis anyone's guess.

We ended with a circle a moment's silence for the war dead and shared news
from the war and the nonviolent resistance to it....Gaza beach landing, Kathy Kelly's walk,
the Gaudalupe CW at Vanderburg A.F.B.....signs of hope

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi Prime Minister Prime Nuri al-Maliki said on Monday that an agreement had been reached in negotiations on a security pact with the United States to end any foreign military presence in Iraq by the end of 2011.

"There is an agreement actually reached, reached between the two parties on a fixed date which is the end of 2011 to end any foreign presence on Iraqi soil," Maliki said in a speech to tribal leaders in the Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone.

Just as before when Obama went to Iraq, the Maliki people are undermining the Bushies to help Obama at a crucial time.

And, as before, the Whitehouse is desperately trying to pretend all is going according to plan....

The US Defense Department also stressed that a final accord had yet to be reached.

"The agreement is not completed," spokesman Bryan Whitman said at the Pentagon, adding that specifics were "still being worked through."
