Once at Foreign Affairs Joint Committee on Tuesday
Once at European Affairs Committee on Thursday

It might be an idea to get in contact with the members of these committees in Advance of these meetings and ask that the members express in no uncertain terms the anger in the country about Israels actions in Gaza. It might also be an idea that people demand that these Tds etc add their voices to the growing number of people and politicians demanding that said ambassador be expelled. Maybe a welcoming committee for the representative of the rogue state!

Demand his explusion, demand the Irish government expell him, encourage IPSC to call for his expulsion. Take the International boycott to the level of cutting political ties. Venezuala has done it, Irish TD Chris Andrews has called for it, Britain is talking about it...

Government TD calls for Expulsion of Israeli Ambassador : IPSC should do same.

* I call on the Irish government to request the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador to Ireland, Dr Zion Evrony, and the full closure of the Israeli embassy untill a full cesesation of hostilities is recognised.

Looking for signatures from TDs and other well known and respected individuals demanding this expulsion - they are being contacted individually - it's in their email - contact your TD or any TD you are in any contact with and ask/demand that they sign this letter immediately. Embarrass this apologist for murder and warcrimes aover the course of these meetings

The text of the letter is ""We the undersigned are united in seeking the immediate expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland Dr. Zion Evrony. We believe the Ambassador must leave Ireland until such time as there is a complete end to Israel's war on Gaza and it's continued slaughter of the Palestinian people."

Was the Russian or Georgian ambassador expelled during the recent war over South Ossetia?
Was the Chinese ambassador expelled during the recent crackdown on Tibetans?
Was the Burmese ambassador expelled during the recent crackdown on the democracy movement?
Was the American ambassador expelled durign the Afghanistan or Iraq invasions?

Has diplomatic relations been suspended with a range of African dictatorships who commit oppression of their own people, war crimes and genocide and have diplomatic representatives in this country?

Even when the Troubles were raging in Northern Ireland, was diplomatioc relations broken or withdrawn from Ireland, even after the British embassy was burnt down after Bloody Sunday or Lord Mountbatten and the British ambassador was assassinated?

At the height of the genocidal regimes of Stalin, Mao and Hitler, the diplomatic representatives of the Soviet Union, Communist China and Nazi Germany were not expelled.

The current conflict is appalling and overwhelming Israeli force is out of proportion with the rockets of Hamas and the deaths of many innocent people needs to stop right away.

Why is Israel any different from any other country?

Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, Egypt, Libya, Pakistan and a host of other regimes in the Middle East also have appalling barbaric records in regard to human rights.

Why not expel them? Why are there NO protests outside their embassies and consulates?

The UN Human Rights Council has condemned Israel for 'grave' human rights violations against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The 47 member council on Monday passed a resolution calling for an immediate dispatch of an international fact-finding mission to investigate Israeli violations against the Palestinians in Gaza, while the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, was asked to look into the bombing of UNRWA schools in the strip.

Thirty-three African, Asian, Arab and Latin American countries voted for the resolution. Thirteen mainly European states abstained, while Canada was the only country to vote against the resolution.

This is while; Israel dismissed the resolution as being one-sided and cast doubt on the council's credibility.

Labour Youth will be at the Merrion Square gate today at 130pm. We will be ''greeting'' both the Palestinian and Israeli Ambassadors to make the point that the Gaza offensive is unacceptable and both sides need to accept the reality of an equitable peace deal (ie return to 1967 borders and sharing of resources). Wewill be using placards, banners and a megaphone to get our point across.

I'm sure that will work alright.
It's not like the religious, ethnic, territorial and historical roots of the Israeli-Arab conflict don't go back centuries?
The problem with the Middle East is that Arabs can rant at you in detail about the crimes committed by the Crusaders and the heroics of Saladin as if they happened last week or Jews who believe that they can demolish the Dome of the Rock and build the Third Temple, no problem.

I think someone once said that if someone hadn't neglected to build a lunatic asylum in Jerusalem thousands of years ago we wouldn't witness the current conflict.

Quite frankly both sides are stuck in a Bronze-Age time warp.

"Quite frankly both sides are stuck in a Bronze-Age time warp."

Well that’s just a guess on your part, the first clashes with Arabs and Zionists was 1922 when the first Jewish settlements were being made over Arab towns, so the cause of the conflict was and is Zionism! There were Jews who lived in Palestine before Zionism was even thought of. They lived there as Palestinians not as Israelis. I have Problem of Jews moving to Palestine and become Palestinians but to say its there’s and no body else’s by divine right and kick the natives out of their homes? Zionism is Regions fundamentalism and a form of Fascism.

author by gazasympathiserpublication date Tue Jan 13, 2009 13:04author address author phone Report this post to the editors

The Zionists are clearly the ones stuck in a timewarp where they believe a book written over 2000 years ago gives them the divine right to steal land their ancestors had vacated under the Roman Empire almost 2000 years ago.

Further to the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador and his staff this is an excellent idea.

If you have concerns about the US ambassador or the Chinese one etc. feel free to call for their expulsion but leave our protest alone.

This is a democratic country with equal rights and humane treatment for all citizens unlike Israel.

I agree the rivalries between religions in the region goes back millenia, but the modern question of Israel/Palestine is distinguished by Hamas actually accepting a solution based on the 1967 borders up until 2005. It is a bit simplistic to just put all the problems of the Middle East down to religion.

"Everyone has duties to the community in which alone the free and full development of his personality is possible."

Article 29 (1) of UDHR at http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html

This suggests to me that -- within the healthy limits (as I see them) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights -- we should all be trying to dissuade those who are violating human rights from doing so, and helping them to find better to resolve their conflicts (which are within the UDHR limits).

Every "individual" and "every organ of society"..."keeping this Declaration constantly in mind" ..."shall strive by teaching and education to promote respect for these rights" :

"Now, Therefore THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY proclaims THIS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations, to the end that every individual and every organ of society, keeping this Declaration constantly in mind, shall strive by teaching and education to promote respect for these rights and freedoms and by progressive measures, national and international, to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance, both among the peoples of Member States themselves and among the peoples of territories under their jurisdiction."

I'm wondering if the above mentioned meeting with Dublin City Council actually took place this morning, and if so what happened?

The way I see things Israel don't have a leg to stand on - especially because of the way their Air Force is violently killing very young and completely innocent children from the air.

That (to me) is most definitely an act of savagery and barbarism: which is well out of place in 2009.

I fail to see how such acts can be successfully defended by anybody.
