Queen's Shilling Irishmen in Afghanistan

category galway | anti-war / imperialism | other press author Saturday July 31, 2010 15:30author by TD - Free Palestine Campaign Report this post to the editors

Baa baa black sheep ... three bags full

Instead of being "cannon fodder for the Russian masses on the German plains," Queen's shilling Irishmen can now engage in imperial conquest in Afghanistan. Happily, they are "not stepping off to Afghanistan with the words of the prime minister ringing in their ears.” Ovinely, “they are going because the guy next to them is going.”
queens_shilling.jpg

Hennessy's next recruiting blurb, it is rumoured, is for the US army's death squad in Afghanistan; Task Force 373. “It’s fun to shoot some people ... have a plan to kill everybody you meet " (Gen. James Mattis; Obama's new CentCom war lord).

Brave Irish people fight in every army in the world.

Brings in a shilling.......even a Queens Shilling.

Spoken like a mercenary. Or a mugger. The ones at risk in war are the unarmed civilians, mostly women and children. And in modern warfare of attrition and logistical depletion of the enemies resources and civilian population demoralisation, as in the recent demonstrations in Lebanon and Gaza, schools, hospitals, and other productive and supportive infrastrucure that will soak up personnel, treasure and a population's will to resist.
Nothing too brave about surrendering your individual autonomy and conscience to obey orders for money. It does, however, have the major advantage of saving you the trouble of growing a brain and becoming an adult, and substitutes the pleasure of gratifying your childhood fantasies of dominating the playground while your 'superior' officers reassure you right is on your side. And then there is all that camaraderie, just like being in the gang and putting down the uppity neighbours.Try thinking, soldier.
No I'm an EX-pacifist. I've no trouble with killing, but I will be sure its a last resort, and it wont be someone elses choice of target if it happens. It is, after all, as the phrase has it, a target-rich fucking environment. But the legitimate targets have all the weapons. The good news is there must be nearly enough ammo by now. Lockheed Martin's planned investment in the Israeli arms industry should see to it that there is a stealth bomber for everyone in the audience.

Very true.

The RAF obliterated Hamburg and Berlin to keep Hitler at bay.

Not because they hated Germans.

I have endured the anglicisation of ireland,if you notice, particulary in dublin and up north there is a lot of this..Irish culture and language are not supported and EVEN DISCOURAGED.

Irish have always( NOT AS TRADITION AS SOME PEOPLE LIKE TO SAY),had to fight along english soldiers in the past..and now that is it a matter of choice, some are brainwashed into thinking,(as THEY CANNOT THINK)that joining the army in these times of conflict in other nations is A GOOD IDEA.

Killing people as an option?

Well done to them, it would've been much worse if they'd joined al qaeda!

Thats a bit simplistic. Britannia and the Teutonic empire were fighting for 'lebensraum' and to see who was to get the 'lion's' share of global resources for their plutocratic industrial elites.Uncle Sam played both ends against the middle, hedged its bets, got the allies into hock and proceeded to scoop the globe. It didn't start in September '39.
As for freeman's '..worse if they'd joined al qaeda'; the Anglo-US coalition of the willing western corporate plutocrats created al qaeda for their own ends and could have had Osama(their former leutenant) on a platter by tugging on the pakistan intelligence rope after 9/11 if the neo-con war party was not so gung-ho for a total make-over of the middle east in their own pseudo-democratic image. With the saudi kingpin getting geriatric and unstable they needed a solid presence on the ground to keep the oil in THEIR engine of carcinomic growth rather than the chinese.

its kind of annoying when you hear of irish men joining the most despicable army in the world
but one just remembers with joy,how they got wiped out at kilmichael, obliterated at narrowater and
put down at massarene like the scum that they are. thumbs up to anyone who hits any of these irish sellouts
with an i.e.d. in afghanistan.

You'll fall into the mirror. I've had the pleasure of meeting the wrong end of their hardware(fortunately they had the safety catches on).,but I've also worked with ex-squaddies in Germany and Netherlands. Some of them saw themselves much the same way as Paddy soldier in the blue cap in Lebanon.A lot of them were just lads from the lumpen who joined for the chance of getting a trade and an exit from the ghetto they got born into.I've also encountered the Brit rabid reaction animals up close in civies. You sound a bit like a tricolored one from that comment.
If you judge people by their flags you'll turn into a green fucking orangeman. And I'm sure some of them are as disgusted by the shankill butchery as a lot of us republicans were by the shit some of those calling themselves republicans got up to.
Our worst enemies have always been Irishmen.Go read your history a bit closer.Or look at the present fucking shower of quislings collaborating with the Iraq and Afghan shit. All nomional 'republicans'.Lots of the poor fuckers in Iraq and Afghanistan never got the chance at an education that might let then penetrate the propaganda they get hosed in.
If you were born in manchester you might have been that Tommy.Or are you among the boneheads think we can bomb our way to justice?

So someone calling himself 'republican' thinks the British army is the worst ever, so you've no problem with the SS or the brutality of Stalin's Red Army I suppose? Well what can you expect from someone who supports those IRA scumbags who murdered civilians at Enniskillen or Warrington?

The brave Irishmen who fought against the Nazis in WW2 are the ones we should admire, not those IRA types like Sean Russell who actively collaborated with the Nazis even as deathcamps were being constructed in Poland. Well done to those Irishmen confronting the the islamofascism of the taliban and al qaeda in Afghanistan, well done lads!

Your scattergun is overheating.

'...the islamofascism of the taliban and al qaeda in Afghanistan....'?

Not so long ago they were the brave freedom fighters resisting the godless commies and holding back the tide of atheistic expansionism even though Moscow was actually pursuing a program not a million miles away from the aims of the current retreating coalition of th war-willed.
Do keep up.

Trouble I have with that, soldier, is that you finish up fighting for the bastards that cause the famines and defending them from other hungry soldiers.
I think it makes more sense to shoot the fucker that gave you no other option, rather than someone who is in the same boat as yourself.
Why should we have to slaughter each other for a living when there is plenty for all if it was not for the miserable hogs that never will have enough?

so you enlighten me.

I dont think you would be off topic to expand on how you define republican. Is despising the scumbag dregs of her majesty's finest the total extent of it?

and are you saying we should all ignore our history?Or just that you have already read it all.Or that your personal historic experience of the auxies makes all discussion redundant?

No need to look at who is joining the British Army to glean the extent of the "west brit" menatlity that resides here. Read todays Sindo and particulatly "Owing Harris" who is actually calling on the Minister to instruct RTE journalists to call the wee six Northern Ireland instead of the North of Ireland. And fellas, the guys that go to do Britains bidding by joining their army are paid for by the British taxpayer, you dear friends, are paying "Owing" to hang about the place and come up with drivel.

..but Socrates has put me under strict instruction not to read children's comics. Pain of hemlock if i dont comply.

If you are saying that the 'west brit' mentality is the 'enemy within', I think you need to refresh your terms of refernce for the 21st century.
Its more the east yank these days.
Its gotten more complex since that cliche was coined. The brits are only trying to hang on and ride pillion on the feds coat-tails.
