Early copies of Saturday's Independent reveal that Ireand's biggest selling daily has leapt into the media hysteria that is building up around Mayday. The Independent is the latest paper to join in the frenzy, in the wake of an anonymous smear campaign in the tabloids, which sought to link protestors to terrorism and football hooligans. read full story / add a comment

Report by Alois Vincenzo:
With just a few hours' notice of the Wexford stop on Justin Barrett's 'Public Information Tour', I had had little time to prepare slurs or even to reacquaint myself with the politics of Ireland's most notorious far-right wannabe. I arrived at the talk venue fearing raised eyebrows at what I supposed might seem my lefty youth appearance; unshaven and bedraggled from my day's work I sauntered into the fashionable quay-side hotel foyer, to be met by the derisive chuckle of the young worker on the desk when I enquired which way to the Barrett talk. Embarassing but reassuring. read full story / add a comment

Indymedia Ireland to establish a support group and physical Indymedia centre for Mayday.

Last week two major steps were taken in the development of Indymedia in Ireland. These steps were prompted by two major events coming up in Ireland in the next few months, the accession of the 10 new EU members on May 1st during Ireland's EU presidency and the visit of George Bush to Ireland on June 25th for a US-EU summit. These events present a great challenge and a great opportunity for Indymedia. We can be sure that a large number of people from all over the world will come to Indymedia to find out what's really happening behind the facade of the corporate and state propaganda machines. read full story / add a comment

Ireland on Sunday: Commentary on Front Page and Feature by Deirdre Tynan.

Discussions about the role of corporate media usually end up being esoteric discussions about the subtle misdirection and bias exposed by Chomsky and Hermann. Sometimes though the corporate media just lets it all hang out and tells such huge porkies that it's hard to believe. Perhaps the most "skilled" example of the art of complete and utter lies that has sullied our eyes is the work of "journalist" Deirdre Tynan and her editors and publishers at Ireland on Sunday.
