"Boal’s teachings were controversial, and he was labeled a cultural activist, which the 1960s Brazilian military saw as a threat. In 1971, Boal was arrested, tortured, and eventually exiled to Argentina, where he published his first book "Theatre of the Oppressed" in 1973, later fleeing to Europe."

A New Yorker who was a witness at the scene of the World Trade Centre bombing in 1993 has filed documentation in the Supreme Court that the Ministry for Justice here suppressed evidence in her claim for asylum. She is requesting that activists, members of the public or people interested in immigration/asylum issues come to her Supreme Court appeal on Friday April 11, at 11 am at the Four Courts, Dublin (I assume).

In Britain, a paid spy has been uncovered among the activists in the PLANE STUPID Campaign.

PLANE STUPID is a loose network of groups taking action against airport expansion and aviation's climate impact. The agent claimed to be a recent graduate who was interested in helping out with direct actions, protests and awareness-raising. The Committee in Defense of Mahmoud Salehi, have reported that Mahmoud Salehi, one of the most courageous labour leaders in Iran, was finally released on, Sunday, April 6, 2008 from the City of Sanandaj‘s central prison, where he had finished one-year jail term for his labour activities on March 23, 2008, but the authorities had refused to release him until today. read full story / add a comment

A sixteen year old American in Israel, Rabiha Abusnineh, is asking for urgent international help, including help from Oprah Winfrey, to stop the closure of the Al Shar'iya school and orphanage in Hebron where she is a student.. The Israeli Defence Forces had named April 1st as closure date for the school where there are 500 orphans among the 650 girls. But, in the face of protests and sleep-ins, a High Court decision has extended the date by one week
