This year on The Hill of Tara we will be celebrating Bealtaine as never before. We have picked 4 places over the hill and will be processing to each part with people joined by candle bearers trailing garlands of coloured ribbon and flowers. A New Independent Irish History Podcast has risen to number 2 in Itunes podcast charts in less than a week to challenge Tommy Tiernan and Hector O hEochagain for the top spot. The podcast series aims to look back at the past 2000 years of Irish history and archaeology. Ógra Shinn Féin erected a number of murals in Carrickmore, County Tyrone last night (22 March) ahead of the main Easter Sunday County Commemoration taking place in the republican heartland. The two murals erected on Quinn's Corner are one urging people to 'wear an Easter lily' in remembrance of Ireland's patriot dead and the other one is highlighting the strong solidarity links between the Basque and Irish Youth. President Mary McAleese will be visiting Turkey/Gallipoli in March. A Memorial to the Irish fallen will be erected in Gallipoli where the 10th Irish Division fought in Suvla Bay. Since 2007, we have been patient and responded to all public consultations to have Tara included in the UNESCO Irish World Heritage Tentative list. Given the worldwide interest in the Tara issue, we are hoping the Minister will give us all something to celebrate on St Patricks Day by submitting the Irish list just a little bit early? The Minister's secretary envisions it will be in for the April deadline for this year. We hope to ensure that vision becomes reality. read full story / add a comment ![]()

In an old schoolhouse in north Donegal people gather to grant St Brigid permission to cross the threshold. She carries an armful of freshly cut rushes with a white cloth tied around them.
