The first ever Galway Community Picnic will take place this Saturday the 9th July at 2pm to coincide with the visit of the IM, EU and ECB to Ireland.

Open to all, the picnic will have an inclusive and family friendly atmosphere with activities and entertainment for adults and children.

Music, face painting and a used books and bake sale will take place alongside a slogan factory, the Galway Forum video bank, open discussions on the economy and a ‘people’s referendum’ on the bank debt that the Irish people are being forced to pay. read full story / add a comment

Finance Minister Michael Noonan TD flabbergasted the nation yesterday with his call on people to go on a shopping “splurge” and start spending money in the shops again. On the same programme he suggested people should wear T-shirts emblazoned with the motto “Ireland is not Greece”. As his pronouncements mimic Marie Antoinette, is clear that the pressure getting to him.

David Cameron, the man who is responsible for the attack on education, the working class and the public sector, will be visiting the Stormont Assembly to discuss the Lowering of Corporation Tax.

Under European rules on state aid to regions within nations, any cut in corporation tax would come with a price tag.

The decision today by Judge Ó Donnabháin in Cork Circuit Criminal Court to reverse a 6-month custodial sentence imposed only yesterday on Garda Dean Foley for an unprovoked and vicious attack on a man two years ago has been has been deemed as a "highly dangerous precedent" by Malachy Steenson, Workers' Party representative in Dublin Central, who is also a Practicing Solicitor and Criminologist.
