MAOR (an Irish word for ‘guardian’ or ‘steward’) are a group of individuals based in the North West who came together in 2006 in solidarity with the Shell to Sea campaign and in response to the issues surrounding gas and oil exploration off the Donegal coast. The upcoming MAOR Energy Forum Fortnight attempts to be a tool to raise awareness of and generate discussion on ownership and management of Ireland’s natural resources. MAOR encourages everyone to take part in this energising programme of films, workshops, media discussions and a Citizen’s Forum. All participation in the MAOR Energy Forum Fortnight will be highly valued as MAOR will be compiling all the thoughts shared throughout the events for use in council and government consultation. Find more information on MAOR Energy Fortnight and its events on: www.maorderry.blogspot.com There’s a map available online to help anyone to find the venues at: http://veryderry.com/MOAR-Energy-Forum-Fortnight/ read full story / add a comment ![]()

In all the bustle of Dail ovations and political punditry on the resignation of Mr Ahern the other things that have happened today include the Publication of the White Paper on Lisbon. The EU is a power and the treaty will tighten up the 'drift' (whatever on earth that means) between EU parliament and citizen. It's got something to do with 'traction', which is the term used by Mr Roche. Mr Roche heads up the EU reform process in Ireland, but Dermott Ahern Provided the launch and Junket. read full story / add a comment ![]()

It's amazing that an active politician, albeit of the right, has found himself in the privileged position of both funding and financing a hate crime movie. The man know the laws of his country and is an elected official thus we can all presume that the only reason that he made it was for ego-indulgence. Lots of politicos do that- its called abuse of office. How far we have come from being privileged to study the word and poetry of Islam? Sufism provided many international writers with an area of study and cross-cultural pollination that has benefited Western art and literature in the poetry of Hughes and the writing of Lessing , to name two. Westergaard got an injunction to have his image removed- it was opposed to fanaticism, not Islam. http://www.nrc.nl/international/article1032015.ece/Wild...ction http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7310439.stm read full story / add a comment ![]()

On Saturday March 29, about 800-1000 people demonstrated against the installation of a US missile base in northern Poland. The base, which the governments of the US and Poland would like to build in Redzikowo, just outside of Slupsk near the Baltic Sea, would house elements of the American Missile Defense program, namely so-called interceptor missiles (which can also be used for offensive purposes. Despite the fact that 60% of local residents and over half of all Poles are strongly against the base, and only a small fraction of the rest support it, the government is intent to go ahead and build the base. A radar base is also to be built in the Czech Republic, again despite the opposition of most citizens. read full story / add a comment ![]()
