The difference between altruistic human responses and ‘political’ responses to continuing human misery. The most catastrophic earthquake in recent memory occurred in the Indian Ocean on St. Stephens’s day 2004. The resulting tsunami caused the deaths of 175,000 people across many countries in the region and has left millions more without homes, food, water or livelihoods. Whole communities now have to rebuild lives whilst containing the devastating grief and legacy of all that has been lost. |

Are having a meeting about the tsunami, obviously the message will be global capatalism is bad and debt is bad, join our party and buy our paper.
It's vulture like opportunism
You don't have to like Socialist Youth to think that they have every right to hold a meeting about the Tsunami disaster.
The basic point they want to make - judging by the generally excellent articles that were linked to here just after the disaster - is not that capitalism causes natural disasters but that capitalism greatly magnifies the death and destruction that natural disasters cause. An early warning system would have saved tens of thousands of lives and would have cost a tiny fraction of what government's in the region spend on arms. In capitalism the interests of ordinary people always come after the interests of the elite. That's something worth saying and I think SY deserve credit for saying it.
Australia is the biggest donators to the Tsunami cause as it happenned in our backyard. The Australian goverment led by John Howard a man who's constantly kissing butt in USA. And of course sent troops to Iraq since a free trade agreement was on the table with the US. They have pledged 1 Billion australian dollars (about 800 million US). By far the biggest contributer. The people also gave alot. The sad thing i red was the since the liberation of East Timor, Australia has been playing the USA game of hide and seek and corruption. Ever since the East Timor liberation Australia has been running the gas and oil fields of this tiny country. I red that irregularities emerged that Australia in fact has taken over 2 billion dollars of East Timor funds and not given to the people to re establish their country under non-Indonesian rule. SHAME ! give on one hands and take on the other . The American way is being used even here on the country of "fair go" How low can goverments go ??
With People like Strongbow and Hitler in Bush's Family Affairs are you suprised? The Bush Family has NEVER valued Life and has always viewed victims of Disasters as Societies Dead Flesh.
