![]() ![]() From the newswire: €170,000 was the price paid for the house that I am living in, in a new development in Portlaoise. I am not happy to have discovered that European Union (Czech Republic) workers are being paid €3 an hour on the site. A correspondent reports on the actual employment conditions facing Czech workers in the booming Irish private property construction sector. NOTE: this story has been updated following contact with the developers. See update note and comment below from Mark Conroy read full story / add a comment![]()

![]() ![]() There is nothing like a knock on the head to wake you up and make you reevaluate the things around you. Sitting here with a bump on my left temple that is as stubborn as ever and refuses to go away . I can only sit back and think about the severity of the health care system here in Ireland. I must admit I'm coming from a completely biased perspective, someone who grew up with a public health care system, but here it is anyways. read full story / add a comment![]()

A 'Freetekno' Party was stopped during the weekend by a series brutal and irrational actions of the Czech Police. Around 6000 people were attacked by the riot cops while having a party. The Highway was blocked and people entering the Czech Republic were turned away at the border, discriminated against on the basis of their looks. The party was legal action with approval of the property owner. Police actions were convicted by many mainmedia journalists, inhabitans of the nearest villages, human rights organisations, politicians and even by the president of Czech Republic. read full story / add a comment ![]()
