Last Sunday the President of Ireland , Mary Mc Aleese, was in Italy to address an arch conservative and right wing Italian Catholic powerful organisation called 'Communione e Liberazione' ( Communion and Liberation )
The question must be asked who was she representing at this prestigious event attended by the right wing Berlusconi Government and by mainly arch conservative catholic churchmen.
Was she acting on her own initiative , had she got permission from the Irish Govenment to address this most divisive organisation and was she being used by this organisation to give it further international credibility. read full story / add a comment

As news that Ireland's unemployment rate continues to rise sinks in, 20 young people from across Ireland are gathering in Galway this weekend to prepare their effort in bringing about much needed change.

The SpunOut.ie Academy of Activism, supported by the Huston Film School at NUIG, is a free training course for young people of different backgrounds who are passionate about making a difference in the world around them. Comhlámh was set up originally in 1975 to support development workers returning home and to promote greater understanding of development issues in Ireland. Today the support we provide to development workers and volunteers before, during and after overseas assignments is a core element of our work. We also actively promote the continued involvement of returned development workers and volunteers in working for a better world from Ireland and provide a range of information and opportunities for how you can get involved.

A screening of a short documentary about Climate Camp Ireland 2009 and a
collection of other shorts from previous Climate Camps in other countries
accompanied by a brief talk about what Irish Climate is and where/what it
will be this year. There will also be a chance to ask questions of some of
the people involved. The main film is 20 minutes along and the others are
between five and twelve minutes. There will be Dj's afterwards til 12.
