“ This is not about a company that's in trouble. This is about greed, corporate greed. They're going to Poland because apparently they can make an extra 3%”
- Sacked Dell Worker (quoted in Associated Press)

Like a vulture, having ripped profit out of its workers in Limerick, Dell now wants to go exploit workers elsewhere.

Dell must not be allowed get away with this robbery. This Government can't be trusted to do anything to stop this crisis. Workers in Dell and throughout the Mid West must act to defend the 10,000 jobs at stake.

A massive cache of weaponry is on its way to Israel - via the Greek port of Astakos. Efforts are being made internationally to stop the shipment at the port. The report below will hopefully be up on Indymedia Athens soon, but if anybody has any contacts in Greece please ask them to do what they can to alert people and organise some effective but peaceful attempt to stop this shipment - which may well be used to kill more Palestinainas and possibly to assist in a further assault on Lebanon.

It set sail from Cyprus today. Report below. Word of this mission needs to be spread around the world and its progress monitored very carefully. These people are really vulnerable. Given what we have just witnessed in Gaza we know Israel is capable of violent defiance of world opinion, of law and of even basic humanitarian considerations and that it thinks nothing of murdering innocent people intent only on providing humanitarian aid. John Ging of UNWRA has reported how he had to withdraw UN aid workers because they were being deliberately, and repeatedly targetted by the very IDF units they had negotiated with for safe passage into Gaza to help relieve suffering. He called a halt to the effort when the IDF murdered one of them and has given explicit interviews with Al Jazeera English since. Let's hope this boat doesnt suffer the same fate. read full story / add a comment

Al Jazeera is reporting that: A resolution condemning Israel's military offensive in Gaza has been adopted by the UN Human Rights Council.
The non-binding resolution said the assault, which has now entered its third week and killed more than 900 Palestinians, had "resulted in massive violations of human rights of the Palestinian people".Fewer states than expected supported Monday's resolution, which passed by 33 votes to one, with 13 abstentions. The UN rights body, meeting in Geneva, accused Israel of systematically destroying the Palestinian infrastructure and of targeting civilians as well as medical facilities.

January 10, was a day when radical and muslim europe came together in a big number of cities of the EU to demand the end of the massacre and denounce Bush and Barak as murderers. Today a huge demo is scheduled in Brussels. Many, even on the extreme left, are uncomfortable with the religious undertones of many demos and the fact they end up in collective prayers. Also, the equation of the nazi swastika with the star of david is regarded as historically absurd and antisemitic, just as are cries for the destruction of israel and the burning of Israeli flags.

I will try to address these thorny issues in this piece. read full story / add a comment

On January 11th. 2002 the U.S. opened its twilight zone and star chamber at it's military base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Guantanamo has come to symbolise the fast track acceptance of kidnapping torture as mainstream U.S. policy. Shannon Airport in Ireland has been used extensively for refueling of illegal kidnapping flights. Tens of thousands of others are detained and tortured in U.S. gulags in Iraq, Afghanistan, Diego Garcia, aboard ships and elsewhere known and unknown. read full story / add a comment
