A large group of people showed their solidarity with Shell to Sea hunger striker Maura Harrington and all those who are being arrested, detained, assaulted and otherwise attacked by the state for standing up to Shell. The protest in Dublin city centre this evening, was attended by activists from a wide range of backgrounds and party affiliations, and as well as showing support for the fight against Shell, was an opportunity to spread the word about the shameful giveaway of the country's natural resources. Over a thousand leaflets were given out as protesters mingled with the evening shoppers on Dublin's main street. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Stalls were provided by the WSM, Choice Ireland, Just Books, Organise! and Revolutionary Anarcha-feminist group(RAG) as well as groups from as far as England and Scotland including Solidarity Federation giving the bookfair an international flavour. The Bookfair provides a healthy platform for constructive debate and discussion from past to present struggles. Below are some of the audio recordings from of the public meetings which took place on the day. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Ben Lewis interviews a leading member of Iranian Students for Freedom and Equality who makes clear the Iranian students opposition to both US Imperialism and the Iranian Regime. Full text at link. Some organisations in the west have said that US intervention could provide some sort of limited space to organise, in Iraq, for example. What do you think of this? The United States talks about democracy in Iran and the Middle East to disguise its aim of expanding its influence and power in the region and to offset its financial problems. Oil supplies are another good reason to talk about democracy! But conditions in Iraq today are actually far worse even than under the horrible and torturous rule of Saddam Hussein. read full story / add a comment ![]()

When the Irish constitution was unveiled in 1937 it set out a special place for women within the home. In Ireland as elsewhere ‘women’s life within the home’ has to a large extent been characterized by long hours of thankless drudgery. While the struggles of Irish women for greater liberties during the last century have improved our lives in many ways, the drudgery of housework remains thankless and the workplace has not brought the liberation that certain feminists promised. As anarchists see it, this is because as long as we live in a capitalist society women (or men) can never be meaningfully liberated. read full story / add a comment ![]()

RTE are currently running an online poll ' Are the Gardai putting the interests of Shell ahead of the interests of the public by arresting the two fishermen?' on their news web page: http://www.rte.ie/news/index.html It's not how clear what the final result will be, but so far it looks like a clear majority think the police are not the impartial force they should be. read full story / add a comment ![]()

RTE and other media outlets are reporting that the Shell pipe laying ship is to leave Broadhaven Bay within 48 hours. Some journalists are speculating that the ship's captain has had a crisis of conscience and has left the area in response to the hunger strike, but Shell's statement claims the move is in response to damage to the ship's equipment. In situations like this, it is usual that false claims are made, and even deals are agreed to, purely to diffuse the situation. read full story / add a comment ![]()
