Tá eagraithe Slógadh na n-Óg thar a bheith sásta leis an ócáid ar fad a bhí ar siúl ag an deireadh seachtaine. Bhí muid ag súil go dtiocfadh léar mór daoine amach chuig an an ócáid agus sin a tharla. Bhí an-chuid baill d’Ógra Shinn Féin i láthair fosta agus measann muid gur bhain achan daoine an-sult agus an-tairbhe as. Bhí an deireadh seachtaine féin lonnaithe i gceantar álainn Thír Chonnaill, i sráidbhaile beag darbh ainm Dún Lúiche, suite faoi scáth mhór Earagail. Roghnaíodh an áit áirithe seo fá choinne an tslógaidh de bharr an mhéid ghaeilge a labhairtear ann, atá go h-ard agus de bharr na tacaíochta áitiúla don slógadh a chuaigh go mór chun ár leasa. read full story / add a comment

I write this letter to you the Fishermen of Erris, to your association, and to you all as individuals, and as men, in the light of Shell ‘intransigence‘, as you put it, and the arrival of Shell’s pipe-laying ship ‘the Solitaire’ off our shores. It seems Shell have hit a right nerve with you guys and you’re very correct to be reacting with the defiance you’re adopting … again and at this time. I’m sure you’re considering certain legal action to protect your fishing rights in Broadhaven Bay and beyond, and very good grounds indeed you have to do that, and succeed. But I wouldn’t be relying on that alone, if things don’t work out like! If the law makers are making laws for Shell and Shell only, those ‘laws’ should be disobeyed in any case. And we’re all well very aware of some of the bold and important stances you’ve already taken in the part you play in the hard fight against Shell and the Irish Government for the protection of Erris, it’s families, communities and it’s environment on and off shore. read full story / add a comment

What a time we live in - recession time! Economic downturn, the onslaught of the Right, the unsettling quiescence of the Left, the besieging of the trade union movement; it's all coming at us so fast it's difficult to know which uttered untruth to dissect, which unstated truth to promulgate. So here's a diary - a recession diary - to keep up with the rapid-fire events and commentary - as rapid as the downturn itself. read full story / add a comment

On Thursday July 29th the HSE were presented with 5,000 signatures on petitions demanding the maintaining of A&E services in Ennis, Nenagh and St.John’s Hospitals. The Socialist Party, who collected the petitions, claim that this is only the beginning and that an active campaign must be built. Socialist Party spokesperson, Cian Prendiville said: “The HSE are unlikely to give up on their agenda of centralisation and cutbacks without a fight. Petitions can be a first step, but what is needed is for people to come along to the upcoming health forum on July 29th and use it as a launching pad for a local action group.” read full story / add a comment
