A mother who has been put through hell both here in Ireland and in Nigeria - doesn't it show what little difference there is with regard to basic human decency between the Irish and Nigerian authorities, the same persecution of the defenceless - such indifference, such arrogance, such fear, such selfishness, such inhumanity towards a mother and her two young children who just want a basic freedom to live in peace. read full story / add a comment

On a blustery, cold and damp Friday evening, it was obvious that the shell2sea campaign is alive and well and as strong as ever. A big crowd turned up for the vigil/seisún outside Mountjoy Woman's Prison. The support of passing traffic and pedestrians was very evident by the car horns and well wishers and shouts of "Maura Maura" and "good luck" as well as the many expressions of outrage that she is still in prison. A couple of local men even showd up with a large box of hot chips from the local chipper up the road. read full story / add a comment

Yassamine Mather outlines why the demands put on Iran by Obama cannot be met. Yassamine also analyses developments regarding the upcoming elections in Iran. Full article at the link.

Obama’s message to Iranians to mark Norooz, the Iranian new year, was hailed by sections of the media as “unprecedented” and “historic”, offering a new beginning in Iran-US relations. It was therefore inevitable that when ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme religious leader, dismissed the message as consisting of meaningless slogans, Middle East and Iran ‘analysts’ expended a lot of effort trying to put a positive spin on a very unambiguous negative response.

By lifelong republican Mickey Collins

There should not be a British Army barracks in Antrim, no more than there should be one in Ardee or Athlone. The question for Irish Republicans is how do we get rid of them?

Most times in our history when Irish people exercised their legitimate right to engage in armed struggle against the British, it ended in glorious defeat. Only twice did Republicans get an honourable draw.
