Yesterday, activists with Galway, Free Palestine Campaign in solidarity with Israeli Apartheid Week (1st to 8th March) and in harmony with the "chorus of international opposition to Israeli apartheid and to bolster support for the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign" manned an informaton table in Shop Street dispensing flyers on what Israeli goods/foodstuffs and their purveyors to boycott and gathering signatures for a petition calling on the Board of Eircom "To exclude from consideration the IBM consortium , which includes the Israeli based company Amdocs, for the soon to be awarded contract to provide your company with a new computer billing system." read full story / add a comment

The recent change in Irish society from `get rich quick' to working class struggle has been unprecedented. The economy is sinking fast and the predictions are that things can only get worse. European Commission president José Manuel Barroso has made the point that Ireland would be in the same situation as Iceland if it were not in the euro zone. The banks have been given a €7 billion bailout of taxpayer’s money for their greedy risk-taking mistakes, whilst ordinary people are given job losses, wage cuts, a pension levy, a shrinking health service, and cutbacks in education, transport and other public services. Enough is enough! Come down to the Bank of Ireland and AIB on College Green, lunchtime on April 1st to ask them for your money back. Let's give them a queue to remember. Shut them down for the day.
