The media/gov and industry are not telling people that, in fact, fracking is a major 12 county national issue. This would result in rural Ireland being industrialised by the fracking industry and all the dangers and risks that come with this process. This is also a huge cross-border issue, the same company that wish to frack in the north-west, want to begin operations in Fermanagh. Fermanagh is where the anti-fracking campaign will win or lose in Ireland. Everyone on this island has a vested interest in ensuring that fracking does not proceed in Fermanagh. We all have a duty to do something to help stop this destructive industry. read full story / add a comment

War against Iran has already begun, Sanctions and Malware are the oening acts of war against Iran. Yassamine Mather writes that those who condemn the crimes of the regime should also condemn the crimes of imperialism and its agents, . As the prospect of failure of the third round of talks between Iran and the 5+1 countries looms, the US-led soft war on Iran has been ratcheted up with the threat of further sanctions and the launching of a powerful computer virus targeting Iran’s nuclear research facilities. The virus has already spread to the commercial sectors, including the oil and banking industries. ... read full story / add a comment

We strongly condemn Fine GAEL Councellor Seosamh O Laoi’s claims that the west coast seal population needs to be culled [to protect the fishery industry]. In reality, the decline in fish stocks is due to over over-fishing by the very industry he is involved in. This man, who is himself involved in aquaculture - said that representatives of the fishing organisations should sit down with the relevant experts and work out a culling strategy. He also reminisces to olden days where fishermen carried guns in their boats, and "kept the place clean." read full story / add a comment

By Lisa Hiariej, an Indonesian and Australian lawyer. Almost all Australians have no sympathy for those they perceive as people smugglers. I do not blame Australians for that because they don’t know the real story about why they end up in Australian waters. I believe Australians know only what journalists tell them through the media. The real story of the people who crew the boats is that they are lied to by the Mr Bigs, the organisers, who have little sense of responsibility towards them. These people took the passengers’ money and promised to give a small payment to those who would skipper, cook and deckhand the boats. But they never ever received the money. read full story / add a comment

‘Fracking’ – a protest song. http://www.mediafire.com/?vsa9f1rxdrxlbpr ‘Fracking’ is a song written in opposition to the industrial extraction of fossil-fuel shale gas by hydraulic fracturing, and aims to increase awareness of the many dangers that fracking presents. The protest song has a long tradition across all types of movements and struggles, and it is hoped that this recording can do its small bit to help build community resistance to fracking across the world. read full story / add a comment

Squatting is on the rise again in these times of austerity (see for example the recent occupations of flats in Southern Spain, mostly carried out by housewives and families). An Italian project that’s caught my attention since its beginning is in Pisa, where last year’s Occupy protests evolved into the reappropriation and transformation of abandoned buildings for the benefit of the local community. read full story / add a comment |
