Our planet is dying, and there is no mistaking the cause... Industrial civilization must me confronted as the machine of death that it truly is. The Occupy Movement has the makings of a revolutionary struggle, but it will only succeed if we can properly align our actions with an honest assessment of the predicament we face. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Johannes Stern writes on how the US client Military Junta in Egypt has carried out a murderous attack on protesters. Interestingly: State TV cited US police actions against Occupy Wall Street protests to justify the repression of protests on Tahrir Square. Tellingly, many of the tear gas canisters used against Egyptian protesters were made in the US. Full text at link.
The US views the military as the backbone of the Egyptian bourgeois state, defending capitalist rule and the interests of Western imperialism in the Middle East. Ever since the mass uprising that led to the ouster of Mubarak on February 11, the Obama administration has worked closely with SCAF to try to end strikes and protests by Egyptian workers demanding social equality and democratic rights. It has sought at all costs to prevent a second revolution. read full story / add a comment ![]()

This article by Jan Lundberg of CultureChange.org suggests we should be occupying the land as Jan has pointed out elsewhere that the Occupy movement hasn't really taken on the environmental crisis and sustainability into its core thinking and what will matter in the end is access to land for food when the whole system does eventually crash. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Filmbase in Dublin will be hosting a series of “Israeli Film Days” sponsored by the Israeli Embassy between November 24th and 27th. The IPSC is calling on our supporters to mobilise in opposition to this attempt to use “culture” to whitewash Israeli apartheid and human rights violations against the Palestinian people.
In 2005 a director of the Israeli foreign ministry stated that “We see culture as a hasbara [propaganda] tool of the first rank, and do not differentiate between propaganda and culture.” Filmbase has sold out to the Israeli regime by offering itself as a vehicle for this propaganda. It has sacrificed the power of culture to the culture of power.
The IPSC will be staging a series of protests and leaflettings outside the venue over the course of the festival. If you can make it along to any or all of the mobilisations then please do, it is very important that we do not allow this attempt at normalising the abnormal to happen without raising our voices in opposition. read full story / add a comment

On the 29th November 2001, International Day of Solidarity With the Palestinian People, the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign was formally launched at a public meeting in Trinity College Dublin. This year will mark a decade of the IPSC and our solidarity work in Ireland. In that short decade, we have had both victories and setbacks, and we continue to campaign to help Palestinians achieve the full human, national and democratic rights that they are guaranteed under international law, but denied by Israel’s apartheid regime. read full story / add a comment

I had one of the best seats in the concert hall; in the upper balcony where I could see the soloist clearly including his hands and his feet. The quality of the sound last night in the concert hall was amazing. Anyway I am saying no more. I have already written my comments which you can read below. Just to tell you I drove home like the hammers of hell to Jenkinstown in my white 2010 Toyota iQ and I sat down to eat some cold past in pesto sauce at the kitchen table shortly after mid-night last night. read full story / add a comment

Thirty one malicious prosecutions of an innocent man, followed by perjury, cover ups, scandalous conduct by judges, barristers, solicitors, the Courts Service, the DPP's office, assaults by Gardaí etc - there was a long story to tell about the shameless legal and judicial system in Ireland outside our Houses of Parliament during the protest by Kevin Tracey, despite his illness.
This story is one that could also come under the Rights and Freedom heading as well as under "Crime and Justice". Kevin Tracey has been the victim of criminal behaviour but he has also been deprived of his human rights and of freedom to live a normal life with his family in peace.
Every day of the protest people ask
"Why is this happening in Ireland?"

Louay Hussein a former political prisoner in Syria has more than a few doubts about the Syrian National Council. Hussein, a writer and political prisoner from 1984 to 1991, explains: “People who took part in the protests during the first three months were different from the people now,” he says. The original protesters “had political ideas and values and called for liberty and equality. They were for positive action . . . During this stage, I was part of the movement in the street, as an organiser. But others joined the protests. They regard this regime as murderers rather than a tyranny or dictatorship and raise harmful slogans” by calling for external intervention or executing Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.
However, he observes that the “council has a lot of financial and diplomatic support. Many EU states give visas to its members but not to us.” read full story / add a comment |
